REVIT_Analysing the building & Report preparation_Week 8

Question 1: What are HVAC systems? Why are they essential in modeling of buildings.

Sol: HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. These systems are those will provides the proper Heating, ventilation and air conditioning. For providing there are various systems which provides these qualities, like Collectors, ducts, blowers.

These systems are essential because this provides us the Huge comfort by heating, cooling and air quality in the building at any place in the world whether the region is colder or hotter. In HVAC each letter has its own meanings like H stands for heating required in the building, e.g. if the region is colder like Ladakh, Kashmir, so there should be a proper system of the building to get more and more heat. Proper use of the curtain walls to get more and more heat into the building. Similarly V stands for the Ventilation which means the replacement of the indoor air with the outdoor air.So for a building there should be an efficient Ventilation system to provide fresh and healthy air. Ventilation is done by many methods like providing more and more windows so that the air circulates continuously, growing plants around the building to get fresh air.AC stands for the Air Conditioning which measures the quality of the air, it should be free from the pollutions.

Question 2: From week 7 assignment, based on the building designed use the same revit file to design a HVAC system for each floor to cover the topics included in class.
a. Typical HVAC unit includes Distribution center
b. Collector
c. Ducts
d. Blower
Based on the layout choose appropriate ducts and elevation using property browser and assign the components to appropriate groups to complete modeling of HVAC unit

Aim: To add the conponents –Distributation centre, collector, Ducts, Blower.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the file option and create a new mechanical template, save the file, collaborate it and make it as a central file to link it with the already created files.

Step 2: Go to the file tab and Open the revit file created in the week 7. Link it with the mechanical file.

Step 3: Open the mechanical file, go to the system tab, select the air terminal option to add the HVAC components like supply diffuser, return diffuser.

Step 4: select the Mechanical equipment option from the System toolbar.

Go to the properties browser and select air handling unit. select the no. 3 option.

Step 5: Select two supply diffusers and the air handling unit, click on the Duct option.

A window appears to set the name.

Step 6: now select the generate layout option to make the connection between the supply diffusers and the air handling unit.

Select the type of network. I have selected network 4.

Click on the setting option to set the Duct type, offset. An click finish.

Similarly make the connection between the return diffuser and the air handling unit.

Result:

Question 3: Use the add-ins tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis to your Revit software

Sol: open on the Autodesk app store, and search for the structural analysis toolkit and set the version. Install the file and it will be automatically added into the revit. Or we can directly download it from the google.

Question 4: Why do we need to assess buildings /analyze while modeling elements ? Does design affect modeling in anyways ?

Sol: The determination of the effects of loads on physical structures and their component. Structures subject to this type of analysis include all that must withstand loads, such as buildings, bridges, aircraft and ships. The results of the analysis are used to verify a structure's fitness for use, often precluding physical tests. Structural analysis is thus a key part of the engineering design structures It is a method by which we find out how a structure or a member of a structure behaves when subjected to different loads. The results of the analysis are used to verify the structure's strength for its uses. Structural analysis is thus a key part of structural engineering

Response means to find out support reactions, bending moment, rotation, stresses, strains, shear force, and deflection that the particular member would undergo due to the application of different types of load. Analysis of a structure involves its study from the viewpoint of its strength, stiffness, stability, and vibration

For a structural engineer to start a structural design, he/she must have the loads, or forces and moments that a particular member and the structure as a whole have to resist. Unless there are determined the design cannot start. Hence structure analysis is condition precedent to structural analysis Design affects the modeling as it involves many important load factors which are important for a building to withstand and suppose we have done a modeling of a building and there are some design change at any particular portion of the building we have to do the modeling as per the design

Question 5: From the structural model developed in week 6 and 7, export the complete analytical model to robot structural analysis.
a. List your assumptions on what boundary conditions will be realistic for analysis approach
b. Use the design standards to decide what loads must be applied to floorings based on the type of structure decided
c. List the load combinations and include them in analysis model
d. Analyze the building and report the following results
i. Maximum Moment in each floor for all Load Combinations
ii. Maximum Displacement in each floor for all Load combinations
iii. Lateral Displacement in building for all Lateral Load combinations
e. After analysis , do you think you have a better approach or idea in modeling structural members ?

Sol:

  1. The external force or the displacement are known at the start of the analysis. In this way, boundary conditions are where the structure interacts with the environment either through the application of an external force or through some restraint that is imposing a displacement. For a structural analysis problem to be solvable, every location on the boundary of our structure must have a known boundary condition either a known force or a known displacement. The known force or displacement may have some magnitude or it may be zero.
  • Degrees of freedom
  • Restraints and support
  1. Loads are applied to project are:- live load and dead load
  1. c) load combinations are in the building are

1)1.5(dl+LL)

2)1.25dd+1.75ll

Procedure:

Step 1: Open the structure file already created in the previous week.

Step 2: Go to the manage tab and click on the Structural settings option and load combination.

click ok and select the boundary conditions from analysis tab and type of boundary(fixed, pinned, roller etc.

Step: Go to the analysis tab, and set the type of loads(Point load, area load)

Go to the analytical model .

  1. My system does not support 2021 robot analysis version I am not able to do.

But i know the procedure and process.

Question 6: What is energy analysis and why do we need to consider it while modeling in Revit?

How does the factor of sustainability improve the quality of your design?

Sol: Energy Analysis: Method of Analysing the energy in case of the physical or chemical processes of the materials of different types which can transfer or energy conversation. This provides us the information regarding cost efficiency which improves the performance of the structure.

Sustainability helps us to minimize the negative impacts tends to the surroundings, it ensure the health and comfort for the residents and improves the building performance. The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environment.
