Challenge

Reinforcement Detailing of Beams from ETABS output

Challenge 7

1Q.

Answer:

Aim:

  • To precisely design the beams using the Etabs 2018.

  • To give information about the longitudinal and shear reinforcement for the two continuous beams that are given.

  • To determine the maximum shear force in any one of the continuous beams' spans.

Introduction:

  • Beams are horizontal structural components used for lateral load support.
  • Beams in conventional reinforced concrete structures typically support the weight of the floor slab, but they may also bear the weight of other loads, such as those imposed by walls, finishes, the installation of services, etc
  • The selection of the appropriate beam size and the quantity of longitudinal and shear reinforcement that will satisfy the requirements of the ultimate and serviceability limit states are part of the design and detailing of RC beams.
  • The proper positioning and arrangement of the beam reinforcements on the construction site is crucial to prevent construction errors.

Procedure:

  • To begin, we must first access Challenge seven and download the challenge.
  • Open the Challenge in the ETAABs once it has been downloaded.
  • The load combinations must then be checked, as shown below.
  • By choosing the 'Start Design/Check' option, we must then begin the beam design.
  • We must choose the 'Display Design Info' option after the beam design is complete.
  • We choose the Longitudinal Reinforcing in the Design Output and click the OK button after selecting the 'Display Design Info' option on the new tab that appears, as shown below.
  • The longitudinal reinforcement information will then show up.
  • Next, we must provide the reinforcement details and draw the reinforcement diagram for a three-span continuous beam along Grid-A.
  • The bottom support's maximum area is 1766 mm2, and the bottom area is 702 mm2.
The top support's maximum Ast is 1889 mm2, and the top middle's maximum Ast is 453 mm2.

ETAABs Result:

Results:

  • The Etabs software is successfully used to design the beams in detail.
  • Gave the two continuous beams' longitudinal and shear reinforcement details.
  • Additionally used the Etabs software to determine the value of the maximum shear force in continuous beams.
