Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

Title :- Design , Assembly and Photo Reliasting of an yatch

Objective :-

  • To Design the individual parts With fully defined sketch and approritae dimension.
  • To assemble the individual parts by using suitable mate relation .

Introduction:-

SOLIDWORKS - In this project the American Predator Yacht was taken as a conceptual model, to understand the 3D modelling methodology of Solid modelling and Surface modelling. Each and every part of the yacht was designed and modelled using SOLIDWORKS. Then the modelled parts were assembled by adding proper mates and constraints to create the Photo-Realistic rendered image of the Yacht.

Predator Yacht - A yacht is a Watercraft used for pleasure or sports. The term originates from the Dutch word jacht (which means "hunt"), and originally referenced light, fast sailing vessels that the Dutch Republic navy used to pursue pirates and other transgressors around and into the shallow waters of the Low Countries. The yacht was popularized by Charles II of England as a pleasure or recreation vessel following his restoration in 1660.

Today's yachts are almost exclusively for leisure. A yacht is any sail or power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. The word often connotes luxury; however, luxury is not a quality necessary to meet the definition; nor is it always desirable. Many racing yachts are stripped-out vessels with a minimum of accommodations to lower weight. The term 'sailboat' or 'sail yacht' is used in America to differentiate from a 'powerboat' or 'power yacht.' As of December 2018,there were about 6,500 yachts over 24m on the market.

DESCRIPTION :

Rendering of the individual parts was done in SolidWorks Visualize Professional '19. The Real View graphics were enabled for efficient rendering.
No dedicated cameras and scenes were created for this purpose.

(I) Setting up the Blueprints :

  • All the blueprints were imported into a SolidWorks part file using the path : Tools - Sketch Tools - Sketch Picture.
  • Appropriate positioning as well as scaling of the blueprints is very important and has to be done perfectly as shown.
  • This Blueprint setup is then used to model all the parts.
    1. Propeller Modeling
  • A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that, when rotated, exerts linear thrust upon a working fluid, such as water or air.

    1. Radar Modelling
  • Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (range), angle, or velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain.

Extrude, extrude cut, Mirror, Split line and fillet commands where used while modelling the radar.

    1. Hull Modelling
  • A hull is the watertight body of a ship, boat, or flying boat. The hull may open at the top, or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. Atop the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline.

Outer body of Hull is modelled by using solidwork surface tool. Project curve feature is also used.

Few surface tools where also used like Lofted surface, Boundary surface, Extruded Surface, Trim Surface.

Other tools like swept boss and extrude cut are used.

    1. Garage door modelling
  • Garage door are easy to model by using extrude boss and extrude cut.

    1. Front, Middle Seat Modeling

Basically, three seat where model by using surface tool and khit surface feature.

    Front seat

  • Middle Seat
  • Rear seat
    1. uperstructure Modeling

A superstructure is an extended construction of any building or platform that rises above the rest of the building or platform in a distinct manner. Thus, superstructure means to add a construction to an already existing structure. In ships this is the name given to the part of the ship that emerges from the deck.

The feature which are used in modelling of super structure are surface feature, Knit surface, Swept boss, fillet, extrude boss and chamfers.

    1. Modelling of Radar Mast

Marine radars are X band or S band radars on ships, used to detect other ships and land obstacles, to provide bearing and distance for collision avoidance and navigation at sea. Radar is a vital navigation component for safety at sea and near the shore.

Extrude Boss, Revolved, swept, shell and mirror feature where used.

  • CONCLUSION :

Thus, the complete exterior body parts of a Sunseeker Predator Yacht are modelled in SolidWorks Part file, assembled in SolidWorks Assembly file and then the assembly is rendered using SolidWorks Visualize.
