Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

MODELING AND ASSEMBLY OF YACHT

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the project is to create concept sketches, model the best design using SolidWorks and assemble the components to obtain a fully assembled model of a Yacht.

INTRODUCTION

The Yacht is designed and developed in a step by step process.

  • Creating concept sketches and choosing the best design based on the requirements.
  • Modeling the components with appropriate dimensions.
  • Providing realistic appearances.
  • Assembling the components.
  • Rendering of the assembled model.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY

The initial step is building a concept model. Rough sketches of different concept of the Yacht is made. A model is chosen by considering different design parameters. For the Yacht, rough sketches of top, bottom, side and back views were used for the modeling of different components.

The next step in the process is to model each of the component with appropriate dimensions. The components are designed using different solid modeling and surface modeling tools. The components modeled are as following.

Fig.7 Middle Seat Fig.8 Hull

The parts modeled areas follows –

  1. Garage Door
  2. Front Seat
  3. Middle Seat
  4. Rear seat
  5. Hull
  6. Superstructure
  7. Radar
  8. Propeller
  9. Radar Mast

The Garage Door, Radar, Propeller, Radar Mast, Middle Seat and the Rear Seat were mostly modeled using several solid modeling tools like the Boss Extrude, Extrude Cut, Boss Revolve, Sweep, Loft, Mirror, Fillet, Chamfer, Split, Dome etc. Several surface modeling tools were also used for modeling these parts. The parts are modeled as per the dimensions and it was modeled according to its position within the assembly. Proper appearances were given to the models.

The Hull, Superstructure, and the Front Seat were modeled mostly using the surface modeling tools in SolidWorks like the Surface Extrude, Trim Surface, Loft Surface, Filled Surface, Offset Surface, Swept Surface, Lofted Surface, Ruled Surface, Extend Surface, Thicken, Knit Surface etc. Several solid modeling tools were also used for the modeling. The components were modeled with the appropriate dimension and appearance. Most of the parts were modeled as half and then mirrored at the end as they were symmetric.

The parts were then assembled with the help of several mates like the coincident mate, parallel mate, angle mate etc. The assembled model is then given appropriate appearance and then rendered to get realistic image of the assembled model. Below are the rendered images.
