Project-1

Creation of Mold For a Table Fan Outer Casing

The fan outer casing is provided in SolidWorks format. The model is then scaled to 0.6% to compensate for the shrinkage in the material on solidifying. The model is then made ready by providing a sufficient draft angle(1.5 Degree). In the next step, shutoff surfaces are provided wherever needed. The parting line is created. The parting line divided the model into core and cavity surfaces. Then a parting surface is created and a copy of it is also created using direct editing tools. Then the Core surface is knitted with the parting surface using a surface Knitting tool. Similarly, cavity surface with the parting surface. The core and cavity surfaces are moved to their respective folders in the feature tree. The surface is then moved to the assembly file as a new part. The new part is saved externally. Then new parts are created within the assembly. The 2 blocks are created, one for the core and the other for the cavity, considering the sprue location. both the blocks are saved as separate parts. One of the blocks is cut into the core using cut with surface command and the other into the cavity. The dimension of the mold blocks is corrected with the help of weldments tools. The cavity block had undercuts that required sliders. The cavity block is then opened and the profile for the sliders are crested using the reference plane, split tool and cut into separate solid. The sliders are then saved as separate files. After saving the sliders separately, the slider solid present in the cavity block part is then subtracted with the help of the combine tool. The cavity and sliders are provided with required fillets and appropriate appearances. The cavity block is then updated in the assembly. Then both the sliders are imported as separate solid parts into the assembly. The core block needs ejector pins. The ejector pins are provided in the core with sufficient relief. It is then updated in assembly and the mold is complete.
