Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

1. 12V Battery,Starter, Ignition coil, Horn Button,Fuel Guage,Dome light switch, Plate light, Parking lamp, Generator, Horn

2. Battery systems supplies current to all the electrical loads ans supplies sufficient current to the starter motor.

It is charged by the generator and suppliments the electrical load when the generator falls short.

Starter or starter motor:It converts the electrical energy in to mechanical energy. It is coupled with flywheel which in turn transmits motion to crank shaft to intiate the ignition and combustion process. It is cut off once the cobustion takes place

Generator:The generator supplies the current required for charging the battery. The shaft of the generator is connected to the engine via belt and pulley and when the engine is running, the shaft of the alternator also rotates and producces an alternating current. A rectifier is used to convert the AC to DC and then to charge the battery.

3. Load is 10A, as per the thumb rule, the fuse should be designed 125% higher than the load current which is

10 * 1.25 = 12.5A the available size in the market is 15A

4. Battery Voltage = 12v

Load = 500W

assuming that the load runs for 1 hour, the total energy required is 500Wh

Battery capacity = Total energy required / Battery voltage

Battery capacity = 500/12

Battery capacity = 41.67Ah the available size in the market is 12V 45Ah battery

5. Horn, brake and light switch are all connected in parallel to the battery because the current should pass through all the coils as and when required and for that there should be a potential difference between these circuits

6. Horn switch and horn are connected in series. The brake switch and tail light are connected in series. When the horn switch is closed, the current passes through it and helps in actuating the horn. It is connected in series as there is no change in current is required.
