Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit
Identify each of the major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram.
1.Generator
2.BATTERY
Explain the purpose and working of any three elements briefly.
purpose and working generator
- They Serve As Backup Power. The number one function of a generator is that it is used as a backup power source.
- Temporary Power Supply.
- Standby Power For Businesses.
- Permanent Power.
- Supporting The Main Power Supply.
purpose and working of battery

- The primary functions of battery in automotive engines are to power the starter motor so as to run the engine.
- All electrical components in a vehicle rely on the battery.
- In modern cars where most parts like the injector system, spark plug, sensors are also powered by the battery
purpose and working of ignition coil
Ignition coil mainly consists of primary winding, secondary winding and an iron core. When the current through the primary winding makes and breaks repeatedly by contact breaker, it induces a very high voltage in the secondary winding (about 50000 V). This high voltage from the secondary winding is transferred to the spark plug through ignition distributor to produce spark within the cylinder.
Main Parts
Lamps are connected in parallel because they need to function at a constant supply of voltage. This voltage can be supplied to each of the lamps only when they are connected in parallel. In a parallel circuit, there is no variation in the potential difference on each of the electrical devices connected. In other words, the potential difference across all of them remains the same.
Therefore, lamps are connected in parallel so that each of them receives an identical potential difference. In addition to this, a parallel combination facilitates the operator to switch ON only those lamps that are needed by the operator. If one lamp fails in a parallel combination, it doesn’t affect other lamps
Identify any two elements which are connected in series. Why they are connected in series?
1.FUSE
A fuse wire is always connected in SERIES with the mainline. Reason: If a current larger than the specified value flows through the circuit, fuse wire melts AND OPENS THE CIRCUIT SO THAT CURRENT CAN NOT PASS THROUGH CIRCUIT ANYMORE. Fuse wire must always be connected in series to serve its purpose.
2.AMMETER
The ammeter is used to measure the current flowing through the circuit, so the current should flow properly inside the ammeter to give an accurate result. And the ammeter has low resistance, so it is connected in the series. And one more thing, we use an ammeter to measure the current flowing through the load so ammeter should be connected in series between source and load.
If the total load is 10A from battery, what should be the fuse rating?
FUSE RATING=C*1.25
CURRENT (C)=10
=10*1.25
FUSE RATING = 12.5A
