Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack

Aim:

For a 10 cell series lithium ion battery model, to simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB.

Description of the battery when the fault occurs:

Comparing to other cells the faulty battery will show the Fast discharge rate, sign of over heating.there will be unbalancing of cells

Simulink Model of the 10 cells:

In the simulink model the Signal Builder block which shows the current vs time has been charge discharge for the given stop time of 1369 sec

The 3 Modules are connected in series to make 10 cell battery pack model

in cell resistor can be added to vary the rate of discharge

All the cells are configured as per the datasheet

All the cell are initially 25 deg C at 45 deg C at -10 deg C

Comvective and Conductive block added for heat transfer between blocks

Signal Builder Block:

Used to apply Current Profile and PS Simulink Converter used to convert PS to Simulink model signal to physical signal port diagram used to get Output Signal

1.In this Module 4 table based batteries are used battery specifications are 2.5 Ah capacity intial temperature value is 298K etc and this 4 cells are connected in series also here we use the conductive heat transfer block in which we put the thermal conductivity is 401 W/(K*m) area is 10 m square and thckness is 0.1 m

2.Conductivity heat transfer block in which we put the heat transfer coefficient is 20 W/km^2 and one end of the block is connected to thermal source and other is connected to particular cell.

3.Perfect Insulator also used

4.usage of temperature sensor is aslo used to sense the temperature of the cell and display the value of the scope and one end is connected to the thermal reference.

5.SOC of every cells are also calculate by using add and gain block and display the Soc value % in display block

Result:

State Of Charge at T=298.15 K

Temperature T=298.15 K

STATE OF CHARGE T=310K

TEMPERATUE T=310K

Conclusion:

Thus the 10 cell series lithium ion battery model, to simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB is Simulated.
