Project 2_Design & Analysis of a Hostel building at Guwahati, Assam

Answer of Question No. -1

Question:

In this project, participants will get to experience the entire design process from modelling, analysis, design, and preparation of construction drawings. The architectural drawings of a G+3 RCC building is provided. The following information on the building is to be used:

  • Location – Guwahati, Assam
  • Function – Hostel block in an academic institute
  • The walls will be made of AAC blocks. Other loadings are to be calculated as per the architectural drawings.

The buildings rests on type 3 soil. Piles of length 10 meters and 500 mm diameter with a load-carrying capacity of 280 KN is to be used.

The ground floor level will be at a height of 2 meters above the existing site level to avoid floodwater enter the building.

M25 grade of concrete with Fe500 for longitudinal reinforcement and Fe 415 for shear reinforcement is to be used.

The following design IS codes will be required for reference:

    • IS 875 part 1
    • IS 875 part 2
    • IS 13920
    • IS 1893
    • IS 2911 part 2
    • IS 456
    • SP 34

Students will have to produce the following:

    • Etabs model for the two blocks on either side of the expansion gap
    • Foundation details illustrating the pile & pile cap reinforcement
    • Tie beam details connecting the pile caps
    • Column reinforcement
    • Framing plan for typical floor
    • Beam reinforcements for ground floor

AIM:

In this project, we have to make design process from modelling, analysis, design, and preparation of construction drawings. The architectural drawings of a G+3 RCC building is provided. The following information on the building is to be used:

OBJECTIVE OF THE CHALLANGE:

  • To calculate and assume necessary data from the given architectural and site information.
  • To modal, analyse and design the frame structure using ETABS software.
  • To modal, annalyse and design the foundations using SAFE software
  • To produce structural Typical floor plan & Typical Rebar Drawings.

INTRODUCTION:

IN THIS PROJECT:

    • Beam reinforcements for the ground floor

DATA REQUIEED FOR ETABS ANALYSIS

  • Pinned Support , Base + Story (Plinth to Roof) + 1 Mumty
  • Column 450 x 650mm, Beam 400mmx500mm, Slab 150mm thick, No. Shear wall necessary.
  • Floor live load 2kN/m^2
  • Terrace live load 1kN/m
  • Floor finish + Ceiling finish 1kN/m^2
  • Partition wall load 3.5 kN/m
  • Balcany wall load kN/m
  • Guwahati seismic Zone -V

PROCEDURE: TO COMPLETE THE ANSWER OF THE QUESTION WE HAVE TO FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS:

To Start this Project we need Etanbs Software.

STEP-1

  • Open Etabs Software.
  • Select Use built - in Setting With:

STEP-2

  • Choose Story and put Story name Also put height of story.
  • Add Material Property.

STEP-3

  • Next Go to Define.
  • And define the material Property.

STEP-4

  • Choose material Name M25
  • Material type as Concrete.
  • select weight unit volume

STEP-5

  • Select second Material Property Rebar.
  • Material Name HYSD 500
  • Material Type Rebar

STEP-6

  • Select second Material Property Rebar.
  • Material Name HYSD 415
  • Material Type Rebar

STEP-7

  • Next Go to Section Property And define Section Property.
  • Select Beam Size 400x500 , Column 450x650
  • and Thickness of slabs is 150mm
  • After that define slab Properties define another Slab for staircase as one way slab.

STEP-8

  • Open Define Property.
  • Go to sectional Property and Define Slab Property.

STEP-9

HOW TO PLACE COMPONENTS:

  • We Defined Material Property Now We need to place the components. First we place frame

STEP-10

  • Now Assign the slab element to the project.

STEP-11

DEFINE LOAD CASES:

  • After placing the elements we need to deine the load cases .
  • Go to Load cases
  • Provide Dead load , Live Load , Earthquake Load (Eqx+, Eqx-, Eqy+, Eqy-.)

STEP-12

ASSIGN THE LOAD:

  • We need to Assign the loads. We take 2kN/m^2

STEP-13

  • with reference to IS875: part2.
  • For Brickwall Load as 3.5kN/m

STEP-14

  • For Floor Finishes as 1.5kN/m^2

STEP-15

MASS SOURCE AND RESPONCE SPECTRUM FUNCTION:

  • Go to mass source data
  • Click to load case data
  • Now Define the load combination.

STEP-16

DIAPHRAGM:

  • After that assign diaphragm to the shell.

STEP-17

ANALYSIS:

  • Now click to the analysis tab and analyze the modal.
  • After analyzing we get the following result.

STEP-18

NOW WE NEED TO EXPORT THIS FILE TO THE

  • Now our design is completed we need to export this base reactions and load condition in f2k format for footing degin using SAFE software.

STEP-19

  • Import the safe f2k file into the SAFE software. Hence all the rections and loads have been importe to the software.

STEP-20

  • Define the material for concrete and rebars.

  • Define the material for concrete and rebars fe500.

  • Define the material for pile cap.

STEP-21

  • Now we use draw point option.
  • And Drop the points for footing for each column.

STEP-22

  • Go to the draw option
  • drop point on footing for the piles to be developed.

STEP-23

  • Next we need to provide pile, using the above used option and material property.

STEP-24

  • Now Define beam for tie beams.
  • Now we have to assign springs at these locations where piles are placed.
  • For this we have to constant.
  • than Assign the spring constant.

STEP-25

  • Now define the load combination for serviceavility limit and ultimate limit.

STEP-26

  • Now we need to check the design result.
  • Displacement values are within the limit, hence safe.

STEP-27

Reaction:

STEP-28

  • Now we can see the Punching shear values are also within the range.

STEP-29

Assign the strip:

STEP-30

  • Now, For strip layer A

  • Now, For strip layer A

RESULT:

  • bottom bar Hence the degin of footing is completed .
  • the Reinforcement is 32 mm diameter bars @50 mm C/C
  • bottom top bar32 mm diameter @ 50 mm C/C

Modelling, analysis and design of G+3 building has been carried out successfully using ETABS software and the foundation design (Pile cap and pile) has also been carried out using SAFE software.
