Project 1
Q1) What would the simplest work breakdown structure for this project?
WBS ID | WBS Name |
1 | Clearances |
2 | Design |
3 | Procurement |
3.1 | Civil |
3.2 | MEP Items |
4 | Construction |
4.1 | Sub structure |
4.2 | Super structure |
4.3 | Steel / Enveloping Works |
4.4 | Finishes works |
4.5 | External Works |
5 | Testing and commissioning |
6 | Closure |
The same has been attached to the sheet.
Q2) Construct a project network by deciding on predecessors and successors for each activity.
Every activity has to have a predecessor and successor except for the start and end of the project activities.
The diagram has been attached to the sheet.
Q3) Identify constraints, dependencies and milestones.
Constraints: It is a condition that limits the progress toward the objective or goal. Constraints are limitations and restrictions. Every project has four basic constraints that are scope, time, budget and quality.
For the above project the below points are examples of constraints.
Sl.constraints | Constraints for the project |
1 | Design Input by the contractor (If not received at the correct time it delays all further detailed design and all the further activities) |
2 | Dislocation of local shops (If not cleared it affects the material delivery and construction activities) |
3 | Access release to the contractor (If not cleared it affects the material delivery) |
4 | Finishing the project within 5 months -( If not finished it will lead to liquidity damages) |
Dependencies/Activity Relationship
Activity Relationships are ordered links between 2 activities representing the order of execution. The relationship types are:
FS – Finish to Start
SS – Start to Start
FF – Finish to Finish
SF – Start to Finish.
FS – Finish to Start : In a finish-to-start relationship, a successor activity cannot start until a predecessor activity has finished.
SS – Start to Start : In a start-to-start relationship, a successor activity cannot start until a predecessor activity has started.
FF – Finish to Finish : In a finish-to-finish relationship, a successor activity cannot finish until a predecessor activity has finished.
SF – Start to Finish :In a start-to-finish relationship, a successor activity cannot finish until a predecessor
Milestone
A milestone is a specific point within a project's life cycle used to measure the progress towards the ultimate goal.
The milestones that can be considered for the above project are
Sl.No | Milestones that can be considered for the project |
1 | Start of the project |
2 | Finish of design work |
3 | Finish of structure works |
4 | Finish of all fineshes works |
5 | Finish of all testing & Commisioning |
6 | Closure of the project |
Q4) Ensure that every activity has to have a predecessor and successor except the start and end of the project
The schedule has been prepared and attached to the sheet.
