Project 1

AIM: Mid surface extraction of the car dashboard and meshing under given criteria.

Methodology

we can divide project into three parts.

Geometry Cleanup

Mid surface extraction

Meshing under given quality criteria

Geometry cleanup

Mid surface extraction

The mid surface of given model depends on thickness. The main body thickness is 0.6mm and other structure are of varying thickness.

Use offset method to pull out mid from the model as thickness is not varying for particular part.

mid surface of the model as given below:

Meshing

The quality criteria for the meshing is given below:

s.no quality criteria value
1. Target length 4
2. Min. length 2
3. Max. length 6
4. Aspect 3
5. Warpage 15
6. Skewness 45
7. Jacobian 0.7
8. Min. quad angle 45
9. Max. quad angle 135
10. Min tria angle 30
11. Max. tria angle 120
12. Tria percentage 15

Use mixed mesh for the model and assign a relevant PID as per thickness

Use swap, split, paste, reconstruction and smooth command to solve off elements.

Learning Outcomes

1. Able to fix Hepmetrical errors and geometric cleanup of the component.

2. Able to creating and extracting of mid surface from the parent geometry of plastic component

3. Defeaturing of the components

4.Meshing of the component considering all the given quality criteria

5.Removing trias and rotating quad

Conclusion:

In the above project model we can conclude that the meshing process is very similar to the any complex geometry and it is observed that before meshing we need to observe and study the model carefully as it has varying thickness and need to assign new property to each of them with respect to their thickness. Now the mesh is generated for the IP substrate(dashboard) and all the elements meet the given quality criteria. Thus the model can be given for next solver process.
