Project 1

AIM: To load data ,execute them, analyze velocity output and the fuel consumption of the 1.9L vehicle for UDDS and HWFET cycle.Besides of creating simulink model which has missed in engine subsystem block and vehicle dynamics.(Other subsytem already given).

Powertrain Model:

Vehicle Dynamics Model:

Here the velocity output is global value as it is not only taking under considerration by vehicle dynamics model but also for other measurement blocks too.

Velocity Output From Vehicle Dynamics Model (UDDS & HWFET):

UDDS Cycle:

Optimum Velocity Gain Value For the vehicle comparison with UDDS Cycle:

The blue line is the optimized gain value for this particular forward model with respect to UDDS cycle(yellow).

HWFET Cycle:

Optimum Velocity Gain Value For the vehicle comparison with HWFET Cycle:

Engine Torque Output (UDDS & HWFET):

UDDS Cycle:

HWFET Cycle:

Transmission Torque Output (UDDS & HWFET):

This the torque which comes out from engine and then transmission gear system. The maximum, minimum, mean values has been figured out.

UDDS Cycle:

HWFET Cycle:

For comparison we can check the mean value for both cycles and UDDS cycle has the higher transmission torque value. As UDDS cycle have a frequently stop and go conditions has to face by the vehicle on the urban area or within city. Therefore, due to higher rate of traffic the vehicle always needs of higher torque at lower mean speed values.Whereas, for HWFET ,the except starting high torque the vehicle approach within 'power band'.Where shifting gear up gives optimum high torque with higher acceleration rate so as speed.

Tractive Force Output (UDDS & HWFET):

UDDS Cycle:

HWFET Cycle:

The road conditions of a city and highway are absolutely different. So HWFET has less tractive force to push the car but due to higher aerodynamic resistance it's not significantly lesser than UDDS condition.

Engine Model With Fuel Consumption Output:

Total Fuel Consumption & Fuel Flow Rate Output (UDDS & HWFET):

UDDS Cycle:

Total Fuel Consumption During Complete Driving Cycle:

Fuel Flow Rate:

HWFET Cycle:

Total Fuel Consumption During Complete Driving Cycle:

Fuel Flow Rate:

Now,if we compare the total fuel consumption with respect to time during the whole cycle, it is clearly visible that HWFET has less time and less ffuel consumption than the UDDS cycle.Overall it UDDS cycle is more fuel consuming cycle w.r.t 'T' and 'Y' differences.
