Planetary gear mechanism

Planetary gear mechanism

Introduction: so planetary gears are movements are more complex to imagine(planetary gear BOX) than the simple gears so working on this project was great to understand. if we have design a planetary gear box we have to do lots of work is needed and studying hoe its working internally is so difficult with the help of this tool it is easier to under understand and design a planetary gear box

Procedure:

The model of individual gears are obtained from the menu in the assembly option tools>power transmission >gears .this opens up a small tab on the side asking for

Design requirements of a gear (pressure angle, module ,shaft hole dia ,teeth face thickness),so after giving all this a model can be created either 1 or multiples of it

So i made 1 copy of the sun gear ,and internal ring gear and four copies of the planet gear

As mentioned in the rules I saved the parts separately with prefix as my name then I started applying constrains and to make the assembly work in a way as it should then

Created a motion study to make the assembly simulation

Sl.No

1

Sun Gear

Carrier

Ring Gear

2

Ring Gear

Carrier

Sun Gear

3

Sun Gear

Ring Gear

Carrier

This table of conditions are applied and the angular velocity of the ouput part is plotted as a function of time

calculation:

Inner spure gear (ring gear)

module=2

diametral pitch=0.5

number of teeth=46

pitch circle dia=92in

planetary gear (spuregear)

module=2

diametral pitch=0.5

number of teeth=16

pitch circle dia=32in

sungear (spure gear)

module=2

diametral pitch=0.5

number of teeth=14

pitch circle dia=28in

note:module 2 was chosen instead of module 2.5(not available)

Output

Material used : carbon steel(as carbon steel can take up more abrasion they are used as gear materials)

fps :60

Condition 1: where the output is measured at the carrier by giving the input to the sun gear and fixing the ring gear

We observe that the output is a bit fluctuating because of the play between the gear teeth

The gear reduction obtained in here is 4:1 (approx)

Condition 2: where here also carrier is the output but input is given via ring gear

There isn’t much fluctuation as seen in the output compared to the previous case

The gear ratio obtained is 1.24times reduction in speed (24:19)

Condition 3:where carrier is fixed and input is given through sungear and drawn out through ring gear

The gear ratio obtained is (100:31)
