Objective:
Study of cantilever beam with different cross-sections like circular, rectangular and I section.
To find out the effect of cross-section on the deflection of the beam using FEA technique using Ansys Workbench.
Results has to be verified using strength of material deflection equations.
Procedure:
The material data as given in this problem are, young's modulus is 210e9 pascals and poisson's ratio as 0.3

Circular Cross-Section:
The circular cross section beam of length 1000mm is design using spaceclaim.
Also cross section is of diameter 100mm.

The boundary conditions for the above is applied as given in the problem.
The load of 1000N at the end of beam.
The model is finely meshed and solutions were extracted for the deflection.

From the picture it's absorbed that the maximum deflection takes place at where the load is applied.
Also the maximum deflection value is 0.32403mm. Now in the analytical calculation the obtained value is 0.323mm.
Rectangular Cross-Section:
The rectangular cross section beam of length 1000mm is design using spaceclaim.
Also cross section is of length 50x50mm.

The boundary conditions for the above is applied as given in the problem.
The load of 1000N at the end of beam.
The model is finely meshed and solutions were extracted for the deflection.

From the above picture it's absorbed that the maximum deflection takes place at where the load is applied.
Also the maximum deflection value is 3.1964mm. Now in the analytical calculation the obtained value is 3.0525mm.
I Cross-section:
The I cross section beam of length 1000mm is design using spaceclaim.
Also cross section is of same area equals to area of rectangular section.

The boundary conditions for the above is applied as given in the problem.
The load of 1000N at the end of beam.
The model is finely meshed and solutions were extracted for the deflection.

From the above picture it's absorbed that the maximum deflection takes place at where the load is applied.
Also the maximum deflection value is 0.77856mm. Now in the analytical calculation the obtained value is 0.769mm.
Result:
For Circular section: In comparsion of FEA results with analytical calculation, The accuracy of FEA results is 99.99% to analytical values.
For Rectangular section: In comparsion of FEA results with analytical calculation, The accuracy of FEA results is 95.285% to analytical values.
For I-section: In comparsion of FEA results with analytical calculation, The accuracy of FEA results is 98.756% to analytical values.
