Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Aim:

To mesh the given parallel brackets with given 5 units as element size and create the 1D element such as bar, beam, rod, spring and rigid bodies using 1D mesh tool.

  1. Rod element:- Translational DOF should be Constrained with RBE2 link

Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

dimension b=10 mm

Thickness t= 0.75 mm

  1. Beam element:- All DOF should be constrained with RBE3 link

Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

Dimension b= 10 mm

Dimension c= 8.5 mm

Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

Thickness t2= .6 mm

Thickness t3= .6 mm

  1. Bar element:- Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

Cross-section: X section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

  1. & e. Apply the mass of magnitude 10 with the RBE2 link
  2. Join the two components with Spring elements

Procedure:

Midsurface & Meshing:

The midsurface for the parallel brackets are created and meshed the obtained midsurface. Washer splits are used to do fine mesh around the holes as they are also considered to be the edge. The mesh is done with the element size of 5 units as given in this challenge.

Material & Property:

The material is suppose to be considered which in this case is STEEL. Also the card image is given as shell element for the brackets. The thickness of both bracket_1 and bracket_2 are given as 2 units and 2.5 units respectively.

1D element:

Using hyperbeam view the 1D elements such as bar, beam, rod are created. The dimensions and orientation are given as mentioned in the challenge. Also different cross section for each 1D element is given.

Rigid Body:

Two different types of rigid bodies were created as mentioned in the challenge to organize with 1D elements which is Also given in the challenge. The DOFs are are given differently to different rigid bodies.

1D element property:

Assembly:

The ultimate objective is to merge the created 1D elements with the rigid bodies as mentioned
