Challenge

Modelling and simulation of flow through a flowbench

Aim - To understand how different vavle lifts affects presure and velocity inside the chamber.

Objective - To do a case study on Mesh and identify the suitable mesh for the Flow Simulation, after that use different valve lifts and understand how fluid flows inside our geometry, and examine various parameters like, Pressure, Velocity and Pressure Drop.

Geometry -

Steps -

1. Select Flow Simulation.

2. For setting up the simulation we need to make our geometry water tight and for that we will use Lids feature and close the inout and output ports.

3. Select internal flow form flow wizard, select AIR as working fluid, and leave the rest default.

4. After setting up the wizard, select Total Pressure inlet and Static pressure outlet, we need pressure difference so that the fluid flow can take place so enter the the values respectively.

5. Using Parametric study, we will use the following -

6. Make sure to add goals and results in parametric Study.

7. After setting up above, run the simulation.

Mass Flow Rate -

Here mass flow rate is -ve but it is just fine we will just need to take the absolute values.

Values -

Conclusions -

1) From the plots, we saw as the valve lift increases the pressure as well as velocity of fluid also increases.

2) Mass flow rate increases as the valve lift increases but for higher values of valve lift mass flow rate becomes constant. As we can track from the graph if we could have moved further down and increase the valve lift more the mass flow rate will reach a state where it would have been constant
