MODELLING A SUNSEEKER YACHT IN SOLIDWORKS

ABSTRACT:

A yacht is a sail or power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. There is no standard definition, so the term applies to such vessels that have a cabin with amenities that accommodate overnight use. To be termed a yacht, as opposed to a boat, such a pleasure vessel is likely to be at least 33 feet (10 m) in length and may have been judged to have good aesthetic qualities.

A superyacht or is a large and luxurious pleasure vessel. Superyachts are often available for charter with a staff that caters to guests at a high standard of comfort. They may be designed to emphasize comfort, speed, or expedition capability.

INTRODUCTION:

The Sunseeker company was founded by Robert Braithwaite in England in 1969. By the 21st Century, advanced composite materials and the latest construction techniques created a true triumph.Sunseeker became one the world's finest yacht building comapany till date.

METHODOLOGY:

1. Following is the order of modelling the parts:Propeller - Radar - Garage door - Hull - Front seat - Middle seat - Rear seat - Superstructure.
2. The smaller components like Propeller and Radar were modelled easily with fewer commnands as compared to larger parts such as Hull and Superstructure.
3. Then slowly all the parts were assembled in assembly workbench in Solidoworks.

LIST OF PARTS:

1.Propeller:

Commands usued: Revovle, Loft, Fillet, Cut-Extrude and Circular Pattern.

2. Radar:

Commands used: Boss-Extrude, Fillet, Cut-Extrude, Mirror and Split Line.

3. Garage Door:

Commands used: Cut-Extrude, Fillet, Shell and Mirror.

4. Hull:

Commands used: Surface-Loft, Surface-Extrude, Surface-Trim, Surface-Knit, Surface-Fill, Shell, Boss-Extrude, Cut-Extrude, Fillet, Chamfer, Sweep, Revolve, Dome, Linear Pattern, Mirror and Split.

5. Front Seat:

Commands used: Surface-Sweep, Surface-Extrude, Surface-Trim, Surface-Fill, Surface-Loft, Surface-Knit, Chamfer, Revolve, Cut-Extrude, Fillet, Mirror and Dome.

6. Middle seat:

Commands used: Boss-Extrude, Chamfer, Fillet, Mirror and Cut-Extrude.

7. Rear seat:

Commands used: Surface-Sweep, Surface-Trim, Surface-Offset, Ruled Surface, Surface-Knit, Surface-Extend, Surface-Extrude, Surface-Loft, Boss-Extrude, Cut-Extrude, Chamfer, Surface Offset, Fillet, Sweep, Mirror and Revolve.

8. Superstructure:

Commands used: Surface-Sweep, Surface-Knit, Fillet, Ruled Surface, Surface-Trim, Surface-Sweep, Surface-Knit, Surface-Extrude, Surface-Loft, Surface-Fill, Boss-Extrude, Cut-Extrude, Thicken, Dome, Sweep, Mirror and Offset surface.

CONCLUSION:

Thus a sunseeker yacht was modelled along with a confluence of various surfacing, modelling and assembly commands.
