Meshing with mid-surface extraction and assigning thickness
Objective :
To mesh the given component by extracting mid-surface manually and also assign thickness accordingly
Procedure :
- Import the the and choose RADIOSS interface
- Analyse the component and look out for any geometrical errors on its surface and edit them using Quick edit option
- Split the component into 4 for the convenience
- Use trim with surfs/plane option and select axis and base point
- For better identification , select the surfaces and differentiate them by different colours and move them to different collectors
- Edit the surface before creating mid-surface by using quick-edit , surface edit options
- Remove fillets whose sizes are less than the target element size for meshing using - Defeature option and choose surface fillet
- To extract mid-surface manually , first calculate the distance between the surfaces using distance option and calculate the half the distance
- Create mid-surface by using offset option in surface edit
- Select the surface and mention the distance
- Before offset , Duplicate the surface and using reverse normal if required
- Similarly calculate distance for each surfaces and make individual collectors
- Create individual mid-surface for each surface calculated accordingly and move them to respective collectors
- Edit the surfaces and prepare for meshing
- Select the individual mid-surfaces created that are moved to respective collectors , mesh them individually using automesh option
- Follow these for all the surfaces and create individual mid-surface, meshing and move to individual collectors
- Create property in the tool tab area by right click --> property
- According to varioius thickness size , create various property and enter thickness range
- Now select the collectors individually and then assign thickness to them accordingly
- Thickness assigned to the mesh can be viewed using 2D detailed element representation
Result and Conclusion :
For the given plastic component , mid-surface has been extracted according to thier difference in thicknesses and also meshed them and then assigned thickness using property
