MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly

Aim: Design and Motion Simulation of Piston Assembly using Solidworks.

Theory: Piston-Crank Mechanism is a demonstration of a simple mechanical system of linkages and motion chains. The objective is to display the working of a piston inside an engine cylinder and how the reciprocating motion of the piston gets converted to the rotational motion of the crank.

It consists of the following parts:

  • Connecting Rod
  • Crank
  • End Cap
  • Gudgeon Pin
  • Piston

Connecting Rod: The connecting rod, also called the con rod, is part of the piston engine that connects the piston to the crankshaft. In conjunction with the crank, the connecting rod converts the repetitive movement of the piston into a rotating crankshaft.

Crank: The crankshaft is a moving part of the internal mounting engine (ICE). Its main function is to convert the corresponding movement of the piston into a rotating motion. The pistons are connected to the crankshaft using connecting rods. The crankshaft is placed inside the engine block.

End Cap: The small end of the connecting rod connects to the piston with a piston pin .The piston pin provides a pivot point between the piston and the connecting rod. The cap is attached to the connecting rod with two screws for inserting and removing from the crankshaft.

Gudgeon Pin: A gudgeon pin is usually a short shaped rod made of a high-strength steel alloy with a stiffness that can be physically separated from the rest of the connecting rod and piston or cross. The design of the gudgeon pin, especially in the case of small engines, which greatly revive cars is a challenge. The gudgeon pin should operate under the highest temperatures available to the engine, with difficulty loosening due to its location, while remaining small and light enough to penetrate the piston width and not unnecessarily add regenerative weight. Light and brain requirements require a minimum diameter rod to carry heavy loads and bend loads, with one of the highest pressures of any load on the entire engine. To overcome these problems, the materials used to make the gudgeon pin and the way they are made are among the most well-designed items in any mechanical component found in internal assembly engines.

Piston: A piston is a moving disk enclosed in a cylinder which is made gas-tight by piston rings. The disk moves inside the cylinder as a liquid or gas inside the cylinder expands and contracts. A piston aids in the transformation of heat energy into mechanical work and vice versa.

Piston Assembly:

Procedure:

  • Initially, we will go with the modeling section to design Piston, Crank, Rolingon Roding, Gudgeon Pin, End Сар.

After naming them at Solidworks we will go on to meet the following sections before going on a walk lesson.

  • We will now take the car to a pharmacy on crank axis and use a 2000rpm rotation on the side of the clock.
  • We will now use the link in all sections.
  • We will go down.
  • Now we are done with all the clicks we count to count and then after counting we look at results and sites.
  • Now we can do at the same time make your impersonation of all three.

Case 01: 0 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Case 02: 10 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Case 03: -10 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Results:

Case 01: 0 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Case 02: 10 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Case 03: -10 mm offset and 2000 rpm in the clockwise direction.

Observations:

The straight migration graph is smooth in all three directions.

Where there is no change, the performance of the piston will be higher than the removal conditions as there is a slight decrease in the piston transmission which is obvious as the piston has to move a little further due to shutdown because the entry rod will not go straight to TDC and BDC due to 10mm closure.

In the main setting the 10mm (unpleasant) heat plot is facing the first two as the rotation given to the vehicle is in the direction of the collision.

When the piston pin is in the center of the piston, now when the piston reaches the top or bottom of the dead station, in this type of setting the rod is straight up & down and places a large load on the rod. The crank should rotate the TDC or previous BDC so that the piston can reconnect. This takes away a lot of power and RPM from the engine. This results in a piston stroke.

Now with the used pin, the pin of the piston wrist is slightly offset on the side of the gun so the rod is not straight up and down when the piston is in TDC or BDC. This allows the crank to rotate with minimal resistance which gives the engine power and speed.

This will result in a reduction in the pressure generated by the connecting rod and the pressure below the piston can be reduced using this.

And from the graph obtained after the most accurate measurements we can see that the frequency of rotation of the piston with the wrist pin offset negative is much higher compared to the one with zero left elements and the pin with the negative pressure sequences has a higher frequency than the one with the right handle.
