MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly

Aim :- MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly.

Software Used :- Solidworks 2019

Objective :- Model all the parts and then assemble them in SolidWorks. The motion analysis is going to be carried out in three different condition

Conditions :

  1. 0mm Wrist Pin Offset, Crank speed- 2000rpm
  2. 10mm positive Wrist Pin Offset, Crank speed- 2000rpm
  3. 10mm negative Wrist Pin Offset, Crank speed- 2000rpm

Theory:- A piston is a component of reciprocating engines, reciprocating pumps, gas compressor, hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinder, among other similar mechanisms. It is the moving component that is contained by a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston ring. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crank shaft via piston rod and/or connecting rod. In a pump, the function is reversed and force is transferred from the crankshaft to the piston for the purpose of compressing or ejecting the fluid in the cylinder. In some engines, the piston also acts as a valu by covering and uncovering ports in the cylinder.

Components :-

1. Connecting Rod : Draw the component connecting rod as per the given dimension

2. End Cap :- Draw the component connecting rod as per the given dimension

3.Crank :Draw the component connecting rod as per the given dimension

4. Piston : Draw the component connecting rod as per the given dimension

5. Wrist Pin :- Draw the component connecting rod as per the given dimension

Assembly :- Assemble the following components

Plots :-

Case 1 : 0mm Wrist Pin Offset

Case 2 :10mm positive Wrist Pin Offset

Case 3 :10mm negative wrist pin offset

Comparision of the above plots

Links :- Given below is the link of files of the assembly
