Introduction to REVIT concepts

INTRODUCTION TO REVIT CONCEPTS

introduction:

Revit is a Building information modellin software for architects, landscape architects, structural enginnering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers, designers and contractors. Revit supports a multidiscipline design process for collaborative design. its powerful tools lets us to use the intelligent model-based process to lan, design, construct and manage building and infrastructure.

Te original software was developed by charles River software, founded in 1997, renamed Revit technology corporation in 2000, and acquired by autodesk in 2002. the software aloows to design a building and structure and its compomnent in 3D, annotate the model its drafting element, and access building information from the buliding models database.

Revit is a 4D building infomation modelling capable with tools to plan and track various stages in the buildings lifecycle, from concept to constrution and later maintenance and / or demolitaion.

  • Now, fill in the necessary data.

  • Now, click ok. Hence completed.

11) What is the Analyze toolbar used in Revit? How it is beneficial for design and modeling.

Analyze toolbar can be used to perform structural anaylsis of the building. It has various options that enables the analysis.

-Various analytical model tools are:

  • The boundary conditions option enables to define points, lines and area boundary conditions in an analytical model. Varifies that the boundary condition family type are loaded and assigned in the structural setting menu.
  • Loads option applies point, line and area loads to a model. Each load geometry is a family containing instances and type parameters, applies load sketching or using host compenents.
  • Load cases: adds and edit load cases for the anlaytical model.
  • load combinations: adds and edits the load combination for the anlyatical model. setting a load combination includes defining its name, formula, type, state and usage.

-Other analytical model tools are:

  • Adjust: Adjusts the analyatical model of the structure member in relation to those of the elements to which join .Some adjustments of the anaytical model locations may be equired before a struictural model is transferred to analysis and design software.
  • Reset: Resets the analytical model alignment methods to Auto-detect. Auto-detects remove both projections and manual adjustment from the anlaytical model.
  • Supports Verifies that the structural elements such as beam, columns, walls and slab are joined to supporting elements. Analytical model tab of the structural setting contains the creteria for checking members supports. elements such a foundation and boundary conditions can provide support for other elements.
  • Consistency: Verifies the analytical and physical model for consistency. Examines warnings abd making and make the changes to the model as needed to rectify. the analytical model tab of the structural settings cntains criteria for consistency analysis.

-Space & zones tool:

  • Space separators: Draw a seperation line to divide space. These lines are special model lines that are space bounding .It is used to divide space for different heating and coling requirements. These visible in plan and 3D view . These space seperation lines and room-bounding, space boundaries are determminely the space separation lines along with other room bounding components.
  • Space naming: assigns the name and number from architetcural rooms to MEP spaces used for building performance analysis.

-Various other tools included in the analyze tab of the revit software is given below.

-It is beneficial for design and modelling as it contains variety of tools that enables the strutural analysis of a structure.

  • Various loads and load combinations that are likely to act in a structure can be detremined from this toolbar.
  • Further analysis can be carried out for its safety.

12) What are the links that Revit supports to be linked to the model?

-Links that rivet supports to be linked to the model:

  • Link Revit: Link another revit model to the current model.
  • Link IFC: Links an IFC file to the current project to reference its inforation for additional design works, if you later make changes to the original IFC file and reloaded the link, the project updates tp reflect the IFC file changes.
  • Link CAD: Links a cad to the current revit project. linking is smiliarly to have an xref in Autocad. When the original linked file changes, these changes are refelected in the file when you reloaded the project.
  • Link Topography: Link existing topography to the current revit model. This tool is used when a civil engineer has created topography using civil engineering softwares, such as autodesk civil 3D and you want to use the topographyto provide the context for the building model.
  • DWF markup: links markup DWF files to revit project so tghat the markups can be seen in the corresponding sheets .
  • Decak : Places an image on the surface of a building model for rendering. Decals can be placed on a flat or cylindrical surfaces in 2D & 3D orthpgraphi views.
  • Point cloud : Links a point cloud file into current project.
  • Coordination model: Links a NWD or NWC file to provide context for the revit model.

13) Why do you need the Collaborate tab in Revit? How it supports modeling and its efficiency.

Collaboration tab in revit enables worksharing. through work sharing, users on some local area network(LAN) can work together in same revit model.

  • Multiple revit models can be linked together, allowing to work in context.
  • When there is need for collaboration to occurs among users who are not in the same geographic location, use revit server or revit cloud worksharing.
  • Enabling worksharing involves creating a master project model. konwn as cenetr model.from an existing model.
  • the center model stores the current ownership infromation for all worksets and elements in the project, acts as the ditrubution points for all chnages made in the model.
  • All users should have their own copy of the centeral model, edit locally in this workspace, and then synchonize with centeral to publish changes to the centeral model so that others users can see thier work.

-Revit is really useful for MEP engineers who need to coollabrate with other disciplines. it supports the modelling as:

  • It keeps all parties updated with the current project via worksharing backed by revit cloud services.
  • It allows key design features to be communicated effectively via visual templates and colorfills,
  • It allows the user to divide model into worksheet, which can be made editable or not editable by the current user to avoid confusions and lesson computing load.
  • It allows user to define parametrs as the design progresses, to make model-wide changes quickly and easy.

RESULT:

1) Create a new project and name it:

2) save the project:

- Closing and opening the file:
