Identification of Cracks

1.

A)

Mode of failure:

    It is a bending failure

    It is non repairable

Details:

The flexural bending failure begins by curshing of concrete at compression side followed by yielding of steel at tension side of the beam.it occurs when the beam is over reinforced which means the beam reinforcement ratio is greater than balanced reinforcement ratio

B)

Mode of failure:

    It is a torsion failure

    It is non repairable

Details:

Torsional failure mostly occurs in seismic affected areas subjected to sudden failure.torsional failure is brittle type failure occurs due to undesirable loading.in that three beams were designed for torsional reinforcement and nine as conventional beams.beam is designed for torsion

C)

Mode of failure:

    It is a shear failure

    It is non repairable

Details:

Shear failure occurs when the beam has shear resistance lower than flexural strength and the shear force exceeds the shear capacity of different materials of the beam....this type of failure is sudden is sudden and provides no warning i.e... brittle failure

2.

A)

Mode of failure:

    It is a buckling failure

    It is non repairable

Details:

when a structure is subjected to loading,it can fail because local stresses exceed the maximum allowable stress for material.if this load is applied at the centroid of the cross-section of the beam,it creates only an axial straining of the beam..

B)

Mode of failure:

    It is a compression failure

    It is non repairable

Details:

The flexural compression failure begins by crushing of concrete at compression side followed by yielding of steel at tension side of the beam.it occurs when the beamis over reinforced which means the beam reinforcement ratio is greater than balanced reinforcement ratio

C)

Mode of failure:

     It is a tension failure

It is non repairable (plastic yielding)

Details:

Flexural tension failure initiates by yielding of steel reinforcement followed by crushing of concrete at compression side of the beam.it occurs when the beam is under-reinforced the reinforcement ratio in the beam is low than balanced reinforced ratio
