Hood design-Week 2

REPORT OF HOOD DESIGN:-
- HOOD-Hood is an important part in automobile. It consists of two parts, one is outer panel and the other is the inner panel. Outer panel is for covering the inner panel and build with a soft deformable material to prevent damages to the others, and the inner panel is build with a hard material which is for givving strength the hood as well.

All the mounting features like hinge, striker are fitted in the inner panel. - COMPONENTS-
- Latch Tragectories-Latch is used to open and close the hood. In the below images the the upper ling is the axis on which the stricker point is rest should be perpendicular to the hinge axis(in the bellow side of image).

- MASTIC DATA-There are three types of joining the part, Mastic is one of the joining process where a glue kind is used to do the joints. Mastic sealant is used to seal or to joint the inner panel and the outer panel togethor with a strong bond. It should be used between the inner and the outer panel. Firstly it is mounted betwenn the panels and then when the heat is given the smastics are melted and the getting hard.
- EMBOSS-Emobsses are basically used to give strength to the inner panel. Here I used two layer of emboses. One is the lower one, and the upper one for the cut outs. And I use seperate flat embosses for the striker and the hinges.

In the above pictures, first two embosses are respectively for hinge and the striker, and in the third image here the yellow one is 1st layer of emboss and the green one is 2nd.
The gap between the outer panel and the inner panel with embosses should be 5mm min.

- MANUFACTURING PARAMETERS-
- DRAWING TOOLS USED-
- Offset on the surface
- trim sheet
- project curve
- curve on surface
- embosses(H=9.25 both layer)
- edge blend(min 4mm)
- face blende(min 4mm)
- thiken
- HEMMING- Hemming is the one of the three processes of joining parts. It is used here to join the outer panel and the inner panel.
- Hemming parameter-
Bend length=6mm
gap betwwen two panels =0.2mm
tollerense in the bend=2mm
- Hemming parameter-
- RELIEFS ON THE OUTER PANEL-Reliefs are used in the corners to avoid overlaping and meshing in the hemming process.
- Rear relief-

- Front relief-

- SAFETY-
- Weap Around Distance-When a car crashes on a pedestrain, The human body wraps around the frond part of the car and the head impacts on the bonnet.

To be specified 'WRAP AROUND DISTANCE' is a measurement of distance from the ground to the head impact zone. In the below image the WAD is specified for the children and the adults.
- Better PEDESTRAIN Rating-

In the above image there are two types of pedestrain rating. It is also a safty rating for the head impact the for less damage for pedestrain crashes.
