Hood design-Week 2
Hood: It is front cover of vehicle body used to protect engine and other sensitive parts of vehicle from sunlight, water, dust, etc. It provides easy access to engine or other parts inside it for checking or maintenance of engine. It is very important part for safety of people either they are outside or sitting inside.
It consist of mainly 5 components:
Hood Outter panel: It is outter body of hood which we look fom outside.

Hood Inner panel: It is inner body of hood which is for giving strength to hood.

Striker: It is used for locking hood with the body.

Hinges: These are used for hood's rotation moment along its axis.

Mastics: These are used to fix hood inner panel and outter panel

Emboss: These are used to give strength to outter panel of hood and to maintain height.
Hemming: Hemming is a process used to bind 2 or more sheet metals together at corner edges.

We will consider cost, safety, easy to manufacture, easy to operate and environmental friendly as main consideration while designing.
Cost: It depends upon our target price it can be possible we have to remove or add some feature based upon our target price. As per our vehicle price we have to target for best NCAP ratings possible.
Safety: We have taken care by making embosses and leaved sufficient amount of space in hood outter panel for pedestrian safety.
Easy to manufacturing: As these processes involve in making this hood are already in use and explained so we can use it as our benchmarking.
Easy to operate: Latch movement be smooth then only hood will lock properly at its position.
