Hood design-Week 2
DESIGN OF CAR HOOD INNER PANEL AND OUTER PANEL:
OBJECTIVE:
Design of Hood outer panel, and inner panel by following the given instructions.
HOOD AND ITS COMPONENTS:
It is an opening body panel that covers the engine in the front-engine vehicle. It is arranged to be opened for the purpose of inspecting the engine room, replenishing cooling water and or engine oil, changing parts, making repairs, etc.
Components:
1) Hood outer panel or skin of the hood
2) Hood inner panel
3) Hinge assembly
4) Striker

1) Hood outer panel:
This part of the hood acts as a covering or casing for all the other parts of the hood which are enclosed inside this part. The outer panel skin surface from the style department with proper aesthetic look, gap, and flushness.
2) Hood inner panel:
It provides rigidity to the hood, it is the part on which hinges and striker are to be fixed. This system is the attachment of the hood assembly and vehicle body.
3) Hinge assembly:
It is an important part of our hood and is used to open and closed our hood whenever required with ease.
4) Hood Striker:
It bolts to the underside of the hood at the front. It engages the hood latch when closed.
Manufacturing process:
Hemming:
Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are folded or folded over another part in order to achieve a tight fit. Normally hemming operations are used to connect parts together, improve the appearance of a part, and to reinforce part edges.
Deep drawing:
It is a sheet-forming process in which a sheet metal blank is radially drawn into a forming die by the mechanical action of a punch. It is thus a shape transformation process with material retention.
Hood design:
Hood inner panel:

Commands used in modeling of Inner Panel:
Offset surface, Offset in face, Trim sheet, Through curve, Trim and extend, combine, Face blend, Edge blend, Bridge curve, Trim Curve, Emboss, Projected curve, Law extension, Mirror Geometry, Sew, Thicken.
Hood Outer panel:

Commands used in modeling of Outer Panel:
Offset surface, Offset in face, Law extension, Extend sheet, Edge blend, Trim sheet, Face blend, Curve on surface, Trim sheet, Mirror Geometry, Sew, Thicken.
Conclusion:
- The inner panel is designed with a thickness of 0.75mm as per the given instructions.
- The Outer panel is designed with a thickness of 0.75mm and with a hemming flange and corner relief as per the given instructions.
