Hood design-Week 2

Hood design is consider of different components like hood inner pannel, hood outer pannel, latch, striker,

hinges, and mastic materials.

Hood Outer Pannel

Hood outer pannel is the thinnest layer covered upon the inner pannel that makes car looks

nice actually outer pannel is for stylish part. then going to design first creating line and after that projecting

that curve we will be having two lines where we can use through curves on surface tab to create a sheet after

creating the sheet that should be of thickness is 0.75 mm. When designing the outer pannel need to consider

padestrian safety mainly.

Hood Inner Pannel

Hood inner pannel is the main component that will share the sudden forces not hit the

passengers sitting inside the vehicle it will scater the force to all the sides. then coming to the design taking

the outer pannel as the reference creating a working surface from the parrent surface after creating the

working surface with o offset surface now hiding the parrent surface and here after we make use of working

surface as the refernce. From the reference we offset surface for 1.7mm after offsetting need to offset curve

on surface option from curve tab that is 20mm distance then trim sheet option has to be used for trimming

the surface. Then again ofsetting the surface for 4 mm in that also again we need to use offset curve on

surface option for offsetting curve for 35 mm . again trimming the sheet from trim sheet. Offset surface to 25

mm and curve to 50 mm again trimming this surface outside where as above all are trimmed inside. after

completing creating surfaces then going for the latch and hing reinforcements. By scetching the new design

after design that should be projected on the surface where we need to fix latch and hinges. Then going for

emboss creation emboss can be created in two ways one is going to menu-insert-design feature-emboss this

is one way next one is creating the design and using law extension from surface also can be created.

After completing the design need to remove sharp edges by using face blend and

edge blend making sure emboss created 15mm away from the offsetted curve. And the height will be 18.5mm

next going to mirroring the geometry after mirroring need to check for the mismatches. Then we need to do a

examine geometry feature to check whether the design is proper or not.

Latch trajectory is a the trajectory of the striker to the hinge axis this is the important for the humans

when the bonnet is opened it should not be in contanct withe human's head . this trajector will be calculated

by taking the center of gravity of the hinge axis and drawing a circle that the striker has to move in tangential

direction in that circle.

Mastic material is a type of gum ype of matrial that is placed in between the outer an inner pannel hood

where it gives good NVH. for the most mastic material area is 80mm and the it will be placed in between inner

and outer pannel of clearence of 5mm.

Emboss is the creating the curves on the pannels where to get the strength of the sheet metal and share

the forces on sudden hitting.

Sheet mental goes to some processes to generate shapes like u and v type. Mainly this is carried out by

stamping process, that the stamping will be gien with some angles that are like 45 degrees from the ground

level. there are deferent process in sheet metal processing like punching, shearing and bulking likes there are

many process carried out to get the desired shape.

Hamming is the process of rolling extra 15 mm sheet in the outer pannel into the inner pannel whick will

be given 2mm clearance on the both sides. this process is carried out by using rollars.

For the designing of the hood the main parameters are taken that offset distances and edges blends and

face blends, law extensions the sizes that are used in designing are thickness of both pannles are 0.75mm.
