Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheel Arch Area :
Wheel Arch area is the semi circulared shape that designed in fender which was above the
wheel. These wheel arch area is mainly for the safety of the pedestrians. And it will safe the wheel of the
vehicle from the chipping.
Actually there are there standards of wheel arch areas are there they are
1. Japan standards
2. European standards
3. US standards
1.Japan standards :
where the distance from the wheel and wheelarch is 5mm. From wheel center taking
an angle of 30 degrees towards anticlockwise direction taking 50 degrees in clockwise then calculating the
distance of the wheel and wheelarch distance. The minimum distance of 5mm has to be there for the japan
standards.
2. European standards :
In this standard the distance from wheel to wheelarch is 10mm where the points are
taken as 5 like 30 degrees from anticlockwise and 50 degrees from clockwise then taking the distance of
150mm from the center to wheelarch drawing the line and takig a derived line in between 50 degree and
150mm length curve then projecting them on wheelarch and the measuring the distance that has to 10mm
as a standard.
3.US standards :
In US standards checking the clearance of wheel from end most of the wheelarch and in
anticlockwise upto 180 degrees that is checking the distance every point of the wheel that matches the 5mm
or not in the region of angle 90 degree to left 30 deegree and the region of angle 90 degree to right 50 degree
will be more then 5mm. In this standard the main wheelarch distance is 5mm.
By looking all above standards european standard considered as the best due to more safety
of pedestrians and vehicles.
| Serial number | Angle From center | Clearance | Remarks |
| 1 |
30 |
10.00 | ok |
| 2 | 0 | 9.948 | ok |
| 3 | 50 | -0.1139 | not ok |
| 4 | derived line | -2.8875 | not ok |
| 5 | 150mm distance | -5.9973 | not ok |
By observing the above results the wheelarch is not matching the european standards. whereas the wheel is outside of the wheelarch in point 3,4 and 5.
