Hood design-Week 2
1 - What is HOOD?
=
It is a cover part for engine compartment, it is also a very critical component because of the frontal crash and pedistrial safety requirements. Not only the pedistrial safety requirements, but it is the one which disappears the energy outside the car body, rather than sending it inside car body. The basic understanding is when we start making the HOOD we will have to think about its opening angle and how are we going to keep the HOOD at open condition. So for that we use the SUPPORT ROD & GAS STAY.
SUPPORT ROD = A device for supporting the engine hood of a motor vehicle in its open position by means a rod.
GAS STAY = A device for supporting the engine hood of a motor vehicle in its open position by means of an actuator which is activated by gas.
2- what is LATCH TRAJECTORY?
= Latch Trajectory is the path on which is followed by the Hood during its opening and closing. Here the Circle represents the trajectory. The Line drawn represents the Hinge Axis about which the Hood will open and close. Thickness is 1.5mm.

3- What is MASTIC DATA ?
=Every mastic seal have a tendency of improving the strength locally around 80mm diameter. It is use to improve the noise, vibration and hardness of hood. Need 5mm gap between two parts to apply mastic. It is used as protective coatings on the surfaces of metals to prevent corrosion.

4- What is EMBOSS DEFINATIONS?
=Emboss is given so that during the crash the energy is dissipated outside / away from the vehicle occupants and along with the other cut outs to reduce the weight. Along with reduction in weight it even doesn't cost as it is a cut out. After embossing the required amount of material is trimmed accordingly with NX CAD tools and are given with a fillet radius by maintaining the minimum value of 3 + 0.75, so that no emboss is left out.

5- What is DEEP DRAWING?
= Deep drawing is the process of converting blank of sheet metalinto a cylindrical containers with a flat or hemispherical base. It is combination of metal forming process & sheet metal process. If the ratio of height to diameter of the product is greater than 0.5 then this drawingoperation is known as deep drawing.
6- What is HEMMING ?
=HEMMING operations are used to connect parts together, to improve the appearance of a part and to reinforce part edges. In car part production, hemming is used in assembly as a secondary operation after deep drawing, trimming and flanging operations to join two sheet metal parts (outer and inner) together.
