A valve is a simple mechanical or electro-mechancial device that can help to regulate, control and direct the flow of fluid by opening it completly or partially. The classification of valves based on their use is vast. The selection of appropriate valve in HVAC, REFRIGERATION and piping industry is of prime importance sinxe it can hinder the cost of the project to a greater extent. It is a thumb rule that the valves cost approximately 20 % of the overall piping cost in industries [1]. The classification of the valves based on there function is shown in the figure.
