Challenge

Foundation Design using SAFE

Q.1)

Aim - To analyze and design the isolated footing from week 11 challenge

Procedure -

  • Open SAFE application and Select new model
  • Select units as metric and IS code as IS 456-2000

  • Subgrade modulus = SBC X FOS /Settlement = 150X3/0.05 = 9000kn/m^3
  • Unfactored load = 2000/1.5 =1333.3 kn
  • Dead load = 1333.3/2 = 666.7 kn
  • Live load = 1333.3/2 = 666.7 kn

Step 2 -

  • Add material property
  • Add M25 grade of concrete
  • E = 25000 n/mm^2

  • Add fe 500 for rebar

Step 3 -

  • Add slab properties
  • For footing

  • For mat

  • For stiff

Step 4 -

  • Add soil subgrade modulus

Step 5 -

  • Assign point load

Step 6 -

  • Assign load combinations

Step 7 -

  • Run the analysis

Step 8 -

  • Deformed shape

Step 9 -

  • Check for Reactions

Step 10 -

  • Check for Flexural reinforcement for footing slab

Step 11 -

  • Check for punching shear

Step 12 -

  • Check for slab design

Q. 2)

Aim - To model analysis and design the pile cap

Procedure -

Column size - 600x600mm

Pile length - 16m

Pile diameter - 500mm

Unfactored load - 1175 kn

Load carrying capacity - 200kn

E - 25000 n/mm^2

Number of piles = 1175/200 = 5.8 =6

Spring constant = ExA/L = 25000x196349/16000 = 306795 kn/m

Edge distance = 300mm

Step 1 -

  • Open SAFE application
  • Then select new model
  • Select IS code as 456-2000, and units as metric

Step 2 -

  • Select coordinate system
  • Grid spacing in x-direction - 2.9 and y-direction - 1.65

Step 3 -

  • Select material properties from define
  • Select M25 grade for concrete

  • Select Fe 500 for Rebar

Step 4 -

  • Select slab properties from define
  • Take pile cap

  • Add Column property

  • Add pile property

Step 5 -

  • Using quick draw tool draw slab and also draw pounts

Step 6 -

  • Add piles to each point
  • Also add column of size 600x600mm

Step 7 -

  • Select pile then assign them and then select support data then point spring

Step 8 -

  • Then add load case and load combinations
  • After defining load combination Run the analysis

Step 9 -

  • All the reaction forces are calculated and it is safe

Step 10 -

  • All punching shear values are calculated

Step 11 -

  • Reinforcement slab details

Step 12 -

  • Pile cap foundation design
