Flow over a cylinder

Aim: To simulate transient flow over a cylinder for different Reynolds number

Theory:

Reynolds Number:

It is a ratio of inertial forces to the viscous forces within a fluid

Procedure:

  • Firstly, I started by creating cylinder geometry with a diameter of 0.05m.
  • Then I started the flow simulation and used the necessary options to simulate the external flow over the cylinder

  • Since we need to simulate the transient flow i.e., the flow parameters change with time we need to use the time-dependent parameter to simulate this flow.
  • Initially started the simulation with the initial velocity of 10m/s of flow over the cylinder. and in order to vary the Reynolds number, I varied the velocity with 12m/s and 20 m/s

Results:

  1. Velocity with 10m/s

2. Velocity with 12m/s

3. Velocity of 20m/s
