Challenge

Flow over a cylinder

Aim :- To Calculate the Reynolds number for the baseline simulation

Run transient flow simulation for an increasing Reynolds Number by factor of 20% , 40% , 100% of baseline Reynolds Number.

Calculate he baseline case Reynolds number.

  • Re = rho*U_inlet*D/mu
  • D = cylinder diameter
  • mu = dynamic viscosity
  • rho = density

Running a baseline simulation and then calculating the Reynolds number.

Then increase the Reynolds number by a factor of 20%, 40%, and 100% then run the transient flow simulation.

Assumptions :- 1)Effect of temperature is not considered in study.

2) Cylinder surface is smooth and roughness is considered zero.

Calculations :-

Case 1 At 20% of baseline Reynold number

Re=16243.09 V = 12 M/s , Flow Time = 0.03sec

Case 2 At 40% of baseline Reynolds number

Re = 18950.27 V=14 M/s , Flow time = 0.025sec

Case 3 At 100% of baseline Reynolds number

Re = 27071.82 V=20 M/s ,Flow time = 0.018sec
