FINAL INDEPENDENT PROJECT ON MODELLING & RENDERING OF DRONE TAXI
Final independent project on modelling and rendering of drone taxi
Objective :
To do the modelling and rendering of passenger Drone taxi.
Introduction :
- A drone is generally an aerial vehicle using 4, 6, 8 rotors mounted on its arms that makes the drone to manoeuvre in air.
- The drones are being widely used for filming, agricultural usage, mapping, toys etc.
- The drones bring lot of potential for remote serviceability and ease of control.
- There is huge work going on worldwide to develop drones for manned flight transportation
Parts to be modelled for drone taxi :
-
Drone chassis
-
Drone body
-
Rear storage compartment
-
Rotor assembly
-
Motor assembly
-
Doors
- Chair
8.Side glass
Blueprint set up:
In order to start the design process, we need to first set up the blueprint for the desired existing object.
The blueprint set up will help us to trace and draw sketches and edges of the model that we are going to work
on.The blueprint can be 2D design planer views or simply images of the object from front, side , rear, top/bottom
views.
Technical details/dimensions of the drone:
The drone sizes 1018 x 2074 mm.
Drone chassis
- The drone chassis is modelled using solid modelling features. The chassis carries the drone body and storage area. Also it houses the drone arms that carry rotor assembly.
- The chassis accommodates the battery unit, harnesses, and other control equipments in it.
-
The drone chassis has the black appearance.
The drone chassis was designed using following features:
-
sketch
-
Boss extrude
-
Cut extrude
-
Loft surface
-
Thicken surface
-
Appearance
Drone body:
The drone body is the structure of the drone that accommodates the control unit, seating arrangement.
The doors and side glasses will be mounted on drone body. The drone body is modelled using surface modelling
features.Number of surface lofts are created using the blueprints setup. Then the using surface knitting the the
surface lofts are connected together and later solid model is created using mirror features.
Following features are used to create the drone body:
- Surface lofts
- Surface knits
-
Mirror
-
Filled surface
-
Shell feature
-
Cut extrude feature
- Appearence
Rear storage compartment:
The rear storage compartment is used for storing handful of things.
The compartment is placed just behind the drone body. The storage compartment is created using the surface
modelling features same as used for drone body. Some reference surfaces are used from drone body model.
Features used to create the drone rear storage compartment:
- Surface lofts
-
Surface knitt
- Mirror
-
Filled surface
-
Shell feature
-
Cut extrude feature
-
Appearance
Rotor assembly:
- The rotor is one of the important part of drone that makes it to fly and manoeuvre in the air.
- The drone can have house 4, 6, or 8 rotor configuration based on requirement
-
The drone rotor or blade is created with surface modelling feature.
Features used to create the drone rotor assembly:
- Surface loft
- Surface thicken
-
Mirror
- Boss extrude
- Cut extrude
-
Split line
-
Appearance
Drone motor:
The drone motor powers the drone for its flight in the air.The drone motor is modelled using the solid modelling features
Features used for drone motor modelling:
- Boss Extrude
- Cut extrude
- Appearence
Drone side glass:
The drone side glass is modelled using solid modelling feature
The side glass is created from consume cut bodies option. The cut parts from drone body are used for drone glass modelling.
Features used to create drone side glass:
- Split bodies
-
Consume cut bodies
- Surface offset
- Surface thicken
- Appearence
Drone seat:
The drone modelled here accommodates only one passenger. So only one seat is modelled in this drone project
Features used to model seat:
- Swept boss
- Cut extrude
- Fillet
- Appearence
Rendering:
The photo realistic rendering of drone is done with the use of Solidworks visualize.
Conclusion:
We have successfully done the modelling and rendering of drone taxi in solidworks.
