Challenge

Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Aim: To calculate fender Arch area , to pass the European standards.

Objective:

  • Create the intersection point according to given degree angle.
  • Follow the European standards to prove the design is valid.
  • Conclude the final reasult.

Introduction:

A fender is an American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle, or other body that makes up the wheel well (lower part of the fender). Its main purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other road debris from being thrown into the air by spinning tires. Fenders are usually stiff and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. Sticky substances such as mud can adhere to the smooth outer surface of the tire, but as the tire rolls on the ground, smooth loose objects such as rocks can become temporarily embedded in the grooves of the tread. increase. These materials impart kinetic energy to the object to which the tire is attached and can be thrown off the surface of the tire at high speed. As the vehicle moves forward, the top of the tire rolls forward and can throw objects in the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

Fender Wheel Arch Area:

A wheel arch is a semi-circular area above the wheels of a vehicle. It is an integral part of the fender assembly. There are several standard specifications for measuring tire to fender clearance in the wheel arch area. Tires on the outside of the fenders cause even more chipping and damage pedestrians and vehicles as well. Tires should be placed inside the fenders with pedestrian protection in mind. There are certain standard rules for this.

European regulation

The value will be more than 10mm at 30 degree at forward and 50 degree at line above150 mm

Japan Regulation

The value will be more than 5mm at 30 degree at forward and 50 degree at the central vertical line.

US Regulation

The value will be more than 5mm at line 30 degree forward and 50 degree central vertical axis.

Checking if the model satisfies Europe regulation

As we see in the above image the cad model dosent satisfy the Europe regulation so it doesnt pass the check.
