Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Aim:

  • To decide whether the given design passes the European standards or not.

Wheel Arch in Fender:-

  • The arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle
  • The fender design must be in such a way that it must shield wheels and protect both passsengers copartment and pedesterian from mud and water which get projected due the speed of the car.
  • For different countries the standered for the design are defined by the country.

European Standards For Wheel Arch:-

1)sketch:-

  • The sketch is drawn on the wheel face as per the European Standards provided and projected on the wheel arch at sections SA,SB,SC,SD and SE to measure "L","a"and wheel arch area.

Clearance value:-

Measuring "L"for given wheel and fender at

1 SB:-

  • The value of "L"at SB=10mm.

2 SA:-

  • The value of"L"at SA=9.9490mm.

3 SC:-

  • The value of "L"at SC=0.113949mm.

4 SD:-

  • The value of"L"at SD=2.887mm.

5 SE:-

  • The value of"L"at SE=5.997mm.

Table of "L" value:

  • this data of table we can say that the Fender doesn't pass the European standard because it's fails at section SA,SC,SD and SE.

A)Obtaining the value of clearance "a"for wheel guard requirements:-

  • Finding the value of "a"at line 30 Degress forward from centre vertical axis of the wheel.

  • The value of"a"at line 30 Degress forward from centre vertical axis of the wheel=48.62mm
  • Finding the value of"a"at line 50 degress rearward from centre vertical axis of the wheel.

  • The value of "a" at reward axis of the wheel=43.3597mm.

Table for"a" value:-

  • This clearance with the value obtained at SB and SC it passess the european standards.
