Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

FENDERS

The fender on a car is located at the front on either side, and at the back on either side. The wheels are located immediately behind in the case of the front fenders, and immediately in front of the rear fenders.

there are 2 types of fenders they are

. full bumper type

. half bumper type

FULL BUMPER TYPE

threse types of fenders are mostly seen in the old cars.it increase the weight in the cars and the wastage of the material is high . the cost of replacement is high and the performnace is less

HALF BUMPER TYPE

these types are most commonly seen in the morden cars. the performance of the car is increased therefore the milage of the vehicle is also increased .less material wast when compared to the full bumpre type . plastics are used in the half bumper typr there fore it is easy to replace and cost efficiency and the weight is reduced

WHEEL AECH

the wheel arch is a semi circular part of the fender which is placed above the wheel.it is placed adn designed in such a way to protect the engine and the pedestriance from chipping

chipping is caused by sand, stones etc by the rotation of tyers throwing in the fenders

EUROPEAN REGULATION

measure clearance L at SA , SB , SC ,SD ,SE and produce CL check chart to validate

at all 5 section the clearnce value L should be greater than 10mm clearance to satisfy the european regulation

after calculating 5 points we get

section L

SA 9.94

SB 10.00

SC -0.11

SD -2.95

SE -6.10

according to these value only SB has passed the standard value but all the other values has been failed to passed through the standard value

WHEEL GAURD LEVEL

the value of 30 deg forward is 45.89mm

the line at 50 deg is 38.73mm

so according to the clearance value it passes per europian standard

CONCLUSION

as per the analysis the given fender does not passes the standard wheel arch as the minimum value at 5 point does not meet the requirement

so we need to change the design in SA SC SD SE
