#5 FENDER DESIGN – WHEEL ARCH CHALLENGE
AIM
To Examine or Determine the Fender and Wheel arch Whether is passes European Norms standard.
Objective
- To create the face curve at most end of fender wheel arch area.
- To create out most area of wheel Tire.
- To create a line from the center of wheel to fender wheel arch area of SA, SB, SC, SD and SE Lines.
Introduction
Fender is arrangement for wheel guarding area of a car. Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
For the Japan standards, the section of B and C is 30 degrees beyond and 50 degrees behind from the center of the wheel A. Distance from the fender wheel arch to wheel tire should be in 5mm meet in section A, B and C.
For the US standards, every 10 degrees a distance should be in 5 mm.
For the European standards, the section of SA is 90-degree, SB is 30 degrees beyond SA, SC is 50 degrees behind, SD is equal distance from SC to SE and SE is 150mm distance from the 0 degree of wheel axis. Distance from the fender wheel arch to wheel tire should be in 10mm meet in section SA, SB, SC, SD and SE.
Considering the above three standards, European standards satisfies both the Japan and US standard requirements. Hence we can examine or determine the European standard norms.
Table 1 Clearance 'L' is obtained to the section SA,SB,SC,SD and SE.

Conclusion
We examine the design of fender wheel arch area Section SA, SC, SD and SE is below 10mm distance.So, fender wheel arch area is not satisfied or meet European standards. I recommended the report to styling team whether change in design.
