Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
TITLE:-
Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
OBJECTIVES:-
The objective of the wheel arc challenge is to calculate the wheel arc area using Siemens NX CAD and to prove whether the given fender of car will Satisfies the European standards or not.
GIVEN:-

CONSTRUCTION:-
1.WHEEL ARCH:-
- The wheel arch is the semicircular part positioned above the wheel of a vehicle.
- The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.
- Corrosion had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch.

2.FENDER:-
- Fender is the part of a car that protects and frames its wheels and keeps mud from splashing it.
- Most modern vehicles have fenders on their front wheels.
- It is the part of a car, truck or motorcycle that surrounds the wheel sell.
- The primary function of a fender is to prevent dirt and debris from being thrown into the air by the tire.
- The fender is located over the wheels of the vehicle.
- As such, there are four fenders on a typical vehicle: front right, front left, rear right and rear left
TYPES:-
- Full Fender
- Half Fender
FULL FENDER TYPE: Full fender type is traditional type of fender where more material consumption is observed. This type is used in old design of automobiles where it increases the overall weight and thus reduces performance. The maintenance also relatively more due to more surface.
HALF FENDER TYPE: Half fender type is modern design where less material consumption is observed, so productivity increases by reducing size of blank and thus providing more performance. The maintenance also relatively low compared to full bumper type.

TYPES OF STANDARDS:-
- Japanese Standard
- European Standard
- USA standard
European Standard:-
- Measure clearance L at section SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD & SE-SE and prepare clearance check chart to validate.
- At all five sections the clearance value should be more Greater than 10mm to satisfythe european standards.
- Wheel guard reqirment: The value of 'a' shall be more than 5mm at a line 30degree forward and 50 degree rearward from the centeral vertical axis of axis of wheel.

Procedure:-
STEP 1:-Create the fender surface for wheel arch study.

STEP 2:-Create sketch as per european standards and Project the sketch on the fender surface to get SA, SB, SC, SD, SE sections.

STEP 3:-Find the Clearance between theose two points.
Difference betwwen the clearance points:-
1.The clearance at the point SA

Ans:The value of clearance at SA is 9.949
2.The clearance at the point SB

Ans:The value of clearance at SB is 10
3.The clearance at the point SC

Ans:The value of clearance at SC is 0.8
4.The clearance at the point SD

Ans:The value of clearance at SD is -2.88
5.The clearance at the point SE

Ans:The value of clearance at SE is -5.99
CLEARANCE CHART:-

RESULT:-
From the above results we can conclude that the fender does not pass the European regulations,as the minimum clearance between the fender wheel arch and wheel for vehicle and pedestrian safety is lOmm and this design does not meet the requirement. So it doesnt pass the European Standard.
