Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

WHEEL ARC CALCULATION:

INTRODUCTION:

Wheel arc is the shape looks like semicircular arc designed in the fender part.

This shape is provided depends on the wheel size.

This design will vary depends on international standards.

OBJECTIVE:

As per European standard we need to verify with the shared design will be ok or not ok.

EUROPEAN STANDARD:

There are some predefined standards are available, in that European standard image is pasted below and we are going to check in our shared 3D model.

1. As per above image “L” is the distance between fender front face and the wheel front face and the dimension should be greater than 10mm.
2. As per the above image “A” is the distance between wheel top face to the fender bottom face and the dimension should be greater than 5mm.
3. As per the above image “SA”, “SB”, “SC”, “SD”, “SE” is the calculation has to check that the given wheel arc in the fender is ok or not.
4. The value given in the image as per standard, is from SA to SB the angle should be 30°, SA to SC the angle should be 50°, from 0° to SE the distance should be 150mm.

DESIGN OUTPUT:

With available 3D data the sketch has been made as per European standard instruction and the output is pasted below.

1. CALCULATING VALUE “L”:

A. The output value gets in “SA” is 9.95 mm.

B. The output value gets in “SB” is 10 mm.

C. The output value gets in “SC” is -0.11 mm.

D. The output value gets in “SD” is -2.86 mm.

E. The output value gets in “SE” is -5.89 mm.

OUTPUT VALUE OF “L”:

As per the result of “SC”,”SD” & “SE” is not ok and Wheel arc value of “L” didn’t pass the requirement as per European standard.

2. CALCULATION VALUE OF “A”:

A. The output value for “A” gets in “SA” location is 27.83 mm.

B. The output value for “A” gets in “SB” location is 44.75 mm.

C. The output value for “A” gets in “SC” location is 38.34 mm.

OUTPUT VALUE OF “A”:

As per the result of “SA”,”SB” & “SC” is ok and Wheel arc value of “A” pass the requirement as per European standard.

CONCLUSION:

As per above output get from the value “A” & “L”, the Wheel arc design given by styling team is not ok and didn’t pass the European requirement at “L” location.

So the styling team need to re-design the 3D model with this shared report to meet as per the European requirement.
