Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
FENDER DESIGN-WHEEL ARCH:
Wheel arch is the semi circular a part of fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle.the design of wheel arch of a fender should be such that is must shield wheel and protect both passengers compatment and pedestrian from projection of water, mud and stones. The wheel arch fender is usually desinged as a cover or shield over the tyre along its perimeter to stop any debries or stone, dirty, sand, snowetc.from getting thrown into the vehicle/BIW area as wll as outside the vehicle and onto other vehicle or pedestrian on the for the vehicle to has its use permit in diffrent countries, the wheel arch fender must be complaint with the standard and regulation set by the respective countries. The european regulation requires a pre determines clearance or a minimum distance of 10mm to be maintained between the fender(front quarter panel)ands the respective tyre at the particular point (5points/section to be extract)along the tyre profile as shown below:

EUROPE STANDARD

- A horizontal and vertical axis is drawn from the centre of the wheel
- The vertical axis intersection point is labwlled as SA
- Similar referances are drawn at 30 degree to the left and 50 degree to the right to the section SA and are named SB and SC respectively
- A line of 150mm is drawm perpendicular to the horizontal axis and the normal from that point on the fender gives as SE
- The mid point point the arc cut by the section SC and SE resultin a new section SD
- The value of a"L"at each section and the value of"A"are found out to determine whether the fender sastisfies the european standars as shown below:
"L" VALUE AT SECTION SA:

'L VALUE OF SECTION SB:

'L' VALUE AT SECTION SC:

'L'VALUE AT SECTION SD:

'L' VALUE AT SECTION SE:

WHEEL ARCH AREA:

CONCLUSION:
From the above results, wecan conclude that the given fender does not pass the european strandard for the wheel arch area.
