Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
WHEE ARCH:
- Wheel arch is a semi circular part,which is situated above the wheel of automobile.
- While designing the wheel arch,we should also consider the pedestrian safety.for example,the tyre should have inside the fender.if it is outside,it may chipped the stone,mud and hit the pedestrian.
- For designing the wheel arch have some regulation,it should differ region to region.because of road condition.
OBJECTIVE:
To calculate the wheel arch area of given fender and say whether the fender pass European standards or not.
EUROPEAN STANDARDS:
The clearance l should have 10 mm for all the five section {SA-SA,SB-SB,SC-SC,SD-SD,SE-SE}which is shown in the fig.
From the vertical axis lines are divide into two,one angle is 30 and another is 50,on this particular area ‘a’ atleast have 5mm.
RESULTS:
Sketch is drawn on the wheel face as per the European standards and make a proected to the fender.
Measuring ‘L’ for given fender and wheel:
SA-SA:
The value of "L" at SA-SA=9.96mm
SB-SB:
The value of "L" at SB-SB=10mm
SC-SC:
The value of "L" at SC-SC=-0.112mm
SD-SD:
The value of "L" at SD-SD=-2.91mm
SE-SE:
The value of "L" at SE-SE=-5.90mm

from table A,the SB is only passed that european regulation,other's not.
MEASURING THE VALUE OF CLEARANCE "a" for wheel guard requirement:
Find the value of clearance "a" on SB:
The value of clearance "L" of SB=46.133mm.
Find the value of clearance "a" on SC:
The value of clearance "L" of SC=38.66mm.
TABLE 2:clearance "a"obtained at SB(inclined 30deg forward from vericle axis) and SB(inclined 50deg backward from vericle axis).

CONCLUSION:
From the above results,we can conclude that the fender doesn't pass the european regulation and we also suggest stying team to modify fender by increasing that clearance.
