Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

WHEEL ARCJ CHALLENEGE

Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle.

The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.

The design of Wheel arch of a fender should be such that it must shield wheels and protect both passengers' compartment from the dust , stone and other particles which are chipped out during the movement of the vehicle .

In diffrent countries , thet have diffrent set of rules and regulations to be followed while designing the wheel arch for the vehicle to get permit in its own region to drive , the wheel arch of fenders must be compliant with the standards and regulations set by the respective countries.

Objective of the Wheel Arch Challenge:

The priliminary objective of the wheel arch challenge is to detemine the wheel arch area and to prove whether the given fender of car will satisfy the European standards or it mignt not.

European Standards for Wheel Arch:

For european standard , in sketcher work bench with the midpoint of the tyre surface as a projection point , draw a line in sketch which is 30 degree forward from the vertical axis of the wheel and a line 50 degree backward the vertical axis of the wheel .

And then draw a line which is 150 mm from the horizontal axis of the wheel and then coincide the line to the outer edge of the fender

Then draw a line which passes through the point we made on the edge of the fender ,

Finally draw a bisecting line between the line of 50 degree line and the line drawn previously

Take sections on the lines drawn such as section SA , SB , SC ,SD , SE , THIS IS THE SECTION TAKEN FROM THE OTER EDGE OF THE FENDER AND THE OUTER EDGE OF THE TYRE ,

THESE ARE SECTIONS CREATED TO DETERMINE THE WHEEL ARCH AREA

CONCLUSION

FROM THE ABOVE VALUES , IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS FENDER WILL NOT SATISFY THE EUROPEAN STANDARS AS THE CLEARANCE VALUE MUST BE GREATER AND EQUAL THAN 10 mm
