Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheel Arc
Objective
To calculate the wheel arc Gap and Check wheter it passes the european standard
What is a wheel Arc
The wheel arch is an arch shaped cavity in the fender. the main purpose of the cavity is to proctect the pedestrian from flying debry, when the ar is in motion.

For this calculation we have most comman three Standards around the world
1. Japan Standard

2. American Standard

3. European Standard

For this Wheel arch we are using European Standard
Step 1
Create a datum plane on the outer most surface of wheel

Step 2
Create a skecth on that datum plane according to european std shown above
and create points on the intersection of wheel arc and wheel

Step 3
Project the points on fender and Calculate the distance btween them. This value is called the L value Tolerance
It should be 10mm or more than 10 mm
Step 4
Calculate the distance btween points on wheel and fender the A Vaule and the value should be 5 mm or more
Section A-Value (mm) Pass L-Value (mm) Pass
SB 49 Yes 10 Yes
SA 32 Yes 9.98 No
SC 42 Yes -0.11 No
SD 47 Yes -2.87 No
SE 42 Yes -5.99 No
Conclusion
As per the Europen std the wheel arch best fit in A-Vaule
but not in L-vaule.
So this will not pass the test
Tip-Try reducing the curvature of fender
