Fender Design Challenge

AIM:

To design the fender according to the given parameters related to industry standards.

FENDER:

• Fender is the american english term of the part of an automobile , motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well.
• Its primary purpose is to prevent sand ,rocks, mud, liquids and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
• Fender are typically rigid and can be damaged by the contact with the road surface.

• strictly materials such as mud may adhere to the smooth outer tyre surface while smooth loose objects such as stones can be become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tyre rolls over the ground.

Types of car fenders:

1. Full Bumper type
2. Half Bumper type

1. Full Bumper Type:

• This type of bumper is not commonly used because this design is more scrap producing one during manufacturing.
• The blank of steel or aluminium used to produce this type has more wastages.
• This type is not economically good to manufacture.

2.Half Bumper Type:

• This types of fenders most commonly used in cars
• The configuration of full bumper type is satisfied in this design, and the blank area of wastage while producing the part is drastically reduced by scrap management.

Mountings of car Fenders:

Master Section of Fenders to design Drip Area:

Drip Area :

• The curve selection command is used for creatinf curves on the surface of the flange to trim the extra sheet metal.
• The position is considered as 200mm from cowl and 150mm from headlight position.
• The flange should be about 7 degree then 40 degree down and 5 degree down which should be total length of 40mm or less from top of fender.
• Then the flat length og 25mm is given in master section of fender.
• Then the mounting points can be created by using emboss options.

A-Pillar Mount Design:

• The consideration is taken from the place at cowl is placed.
• It is taken at the back of the drip mount.

Bumper Mounting Design:

• The bumper mountings is placed at the mating of headlight position.
• This is also has a flange with holes for mountings.

Thus all mounting areas for the fender designed from skin data and master section is done by following all design rules.
