Fender Design Challenge

                                                                                                      Fender Design

Objective: To design the front fender of a car using the skin data given.

Introduction:

Fender is the  part of an aotomobile body that frames the wheel well .Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotation of the tire. And it also increases the aesthetic look of the car by covering the engine compartment.

Design Considerations:

The fender is to be designed based on the master section given above.

The fender mountings to be designed are:

  • Body Mount
  • Drip Mount
  • Bumper Mount
  • Sill Mount
  • A-pillar mount

Given:

In the above given skin data the fender mountings are to be created based on the engineering standards.

Descriptions:

Drip Area: It is the most important mount of fender which is attached to the engine compartment. Thus, for designing this distance between the engine room and fender, clearance length between the hood, and base area of the drip is to be considered.

Bumper Area: It is the area where the fender is connected to the car’s front bumper.

Baffle Area: In this section, holes are created which allow the baffle to be fitted with good tolerance.

A-Pillar Area: It is the area where the fender is connected to the car body.

Sill Area: Sill Mount area is the area near the door downside where the body and fender is connected by fastners.

Conclusion:

The fender was designed based on the design considerations.
