Fender Design Challenge

FENDER:

A fender is an automobile part that is mounted above the wheel location in order to prevent any mud, stones, or any foreign particles that are thrown towards pedestrians and the same vehicle as well.

Design of Fender includes providing mounting points at Drip Area, Bumper Area, Sill Area, A-Pillar Area, and Baffle Area.

Design Methodology:

                                                                     Drip Area Mounting

It is an area that will be in contact with the engine compartment. More care and conditions to be followed while designing the mounting area for this.

There should be a minimum of 200mm gap from the window side in order to provide space for the wiper mechanism.

There Should be a gap of 150mm from the bumper side.

Drip side depth should be normally 40mm for easy movement of the tool. If depth is more than 60mm, then there will be a spring-back effect.

Ribs are provided at the edge in order to provide strength to the sheet.
