Fender Design

1.1 Aim:

To design Fender with its mounting areas such Drip mount, Bumper mount, A-pillar mount, Baffle Mount and Sill Mount. The design should follow the engineering standards and the Drip mount design should have followed the Master Section.

2.1 Fender:

Fender is a shortening word of Defender, where it defends the engine compartment and styling surface of the car body from any objects that would fly off the wheels due to centrifugal force. Fenders are the shaped part of the car body work which allows the wheels to be acccessed or to be steered. In Car for the four wheels, there are two front fenders and two rear fenders.

  1. Car fenders limit the exposure of your car’s body and engine to harmful external elements. Fender flares are attached to ensure that the body and engine have minimal contact with corrosive elements.
  2. Car fenders provide safety to the driver and the passengers at the time of accidents or collisions. They are manufactured to provide bend during front and side collisions and are designed to avoid wind resistance making your car more aerodynamic thus also enhancing the overall look of your car.
  3. Fender flares are available in distinctive designs in the market. Mostly you find universal fender flares, but you can get customized car fenders to fit your car wheels.

The main purpose of the Fender is to prevent the particles from hitting the pedestrians. There are two types of Fenders,

  • Half Bumper type Fender

Its main purpose is to reduce the weight and increase the mileage.

  • Full Bumper type Fender

This type of Fender also covers the frontal wheel portion.

3.1 Engineering Standards followed:

  • During designing of the front fender, the angled gap b/w the Hood and fender is 3 degrees minimum.
  • While designing the Drip area, the 150mm gap for headlight housing from the front of the fender and enough clearance of about 300 or less from the back of the fender for easy installation of the component in the engine bay should be provided.
  • Providing relief on all the sharp edges using the command " Curve on surface".

4.1 Fender Mountings:

The Fender is part where it would be fastened with 5 other parts while assembling. They are

  1. Drip Mount
  2. A-Pillar Mount
  3. Bumper Mount
  4. Baffle Mount
  5. Sill Mount

For the design of Drip Mount, Master Section was followed and as for the dimensions of other mountings all the values were self assumed that would suits it.
