Fender Design

Aim:- Fender Design

Its one of the important part in automobile or in vehicle body, its purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquid & other road sprays from being thrown into air by the rotating tyre. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. Also it consists of verious mounting Sill, Bumper, Baffle(Splash), and A-Pillar points as well as the drip area. fig-01 given fender in car body.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle. There are two type of fender's.

Types of fender.

1. Full Bumper type

2. Half bumper type

1. Full Bumper Type.

Its the type of fender which containt more amount of scrap while manufacturing. Due to the cost ( either tooling or sheet material ) investment is to high.

Fig:- 03 Full Bumper type

2. Half bumper type

Its the type of fender which containt less amount of scrap while manufacturing also A pair of fenders can be produced in a single tooling. Due to the cost ( either tooling or sheet material ) investment is to less.

Types of fender mountings

1. Bumper Mounting

2. Drip Mounting

3. A- Pillar mounting

4. Sill Mounting

5. Cover mounting

1. Bumper mounting:-

At the front, along with the fenders the bumpers or bumper headlight are mounted though nut-bolts or the welding. below fig shows the bumper mount area.

2. Drip Mounting:-

Its the inside mounting area of the engine compartment, where as the fender is fixed in the engine compartment using verious nuts bolts or welding.

Fig:- 06 Drip mount region

3. A- Pillar mounting:-

A-pillar are mounted on this area by using verious nuts bolts or welding.

4. Sill Mounting:-

Sill surface are attached to this area by using verious nuts bolts or welding.

5. Cover mounting:-

Its the wheel arch area of fender where as the wheel arch mounted to this area its primary purpose to ensures stopping any debris that could possibly fly outside the wheel well and hit pedestrians or other the engine compartment.

Conclusion:-

In this way successfully design the fender along with their verious mounting points.
