Fender Design
FENDER DESIGN :
Objective : The main object of this project is to design the BIW(Body in white) of front fender using the fender skin data and master section as the into data by using NX CAD.
Introduction :
Fender is the american english term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well.
Its primary propose is to prevent sand, rocks, mud, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
Fender are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Stickly materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can be become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground.
These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects.
For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the trie is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicle or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
Fender is a front outer side member of a car, which covers the wheel side.
It has so many small features with ups and downs.

The Importance of car Fenders :
- The fenders are an intricate sheet of metal covering the wheel well of your car.
- Fenders are designed in a manner to provide resistance against wind and other roadside debris.
- When you travel on rough terrains tour vehicle might get minor scratches and dents which look no better. Frequent road bumps can cause your cars paint to chip off which needs a paint job done.
- The car fender are located on either side of the front and rear wheels. The front car fenders begin where the front door hinges run and end just before the bumper. The rear car fenders begin where the back doors close and terminate before the back bumpers.
TYPE OF FENDER
There are two type of fender , They are
1 full bumper type
2 half bumper type
FULL BUMPER TYPE

HALF BUMPER TYPE

A fender is different than a bumper because it's a metal structure that frames the wheel well of your car, instead of the front or back.
The fender extends between the front door to the front bumper covering the front wheels of the vehicle.
ASSEMBLY:
There are two type of assembly ,
1 bottom- up assembly
2 top-down assembly
BOTTOM-UP ASSEMBLY
Bottom-up assembly modelling is a part-centric modelling method where the assembly design is started with a principal structural or functional element, and individual parts are designed in relative isolation from the overall assembly.
TOP-DOWN ASSEMBLY
In top-down assembly design, one or more features of a part are defined by something in an assembly, such as a layout sketch or the geometry of another part.
The design intent comes from the top, which is the assembly, and moves down to the parts.
MOUNTING REGIONS ON FENDER:
\
There are five mounting region on a fender ; they are
- A-PILLAR MOUNTING
- BODY MOUNTING
- SILL MOUNTING
- BUMPER MOUNTING
- DRIP AREA MOUNTING
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
GIVE DATA:

DESIGN OF DRIP AREA MOUNTING :
- It is the important uni of the fender. It is connected with the engine compartment , therefore the lot of design constraints are to be followed while designing the fender.
- While designing the drip we have to initially leave 200-300 mm for cowl top
- For placing the headlamp we have to leave at least 150 mm at the front while designing the fender
- Cowl top part consists pf wiper motor and its instruments.

DESIGN OF SILL MOUNTING AREA :
- Sill is the panel directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body .
- the bottom end of the fender is mounting on the sill body for reinforcement of the fender panel ,thus the sill mounting position is designed with holes and emboss , M5 fasteners are used to fix the fenders on the sill body .

DESIGN OF BUMPER MOUNTING AREA:

DESIGN OF A-PILLER MOUNTING AREA :

DESIGNOF BAFFLE MOUNTING AREA :

APPLYING OF THICKNESS TO THE SURFACE:
The thickness of 0.75mm inward on the final sewed surface of the fender to the sheet metal parameters
DIFFERENT VIEWS OF FENDER :

CONCLUSION :
Finally design of fender is done with the help of NX-CAD software by following the master section .
