FENDER DESIGN

Objective

The main objective of this project is design a fender and to provide proper mounting area with the help of given master section by using UG NX

Introduction

Fender is an part which enclosure over the wheels of an automobile or other vehicle to protect against splashing mud, etc. The Fender are located over the wheels of the vehicle - two in front and two in rear which is shown in the above fig. It is important to have fender in vehicle, Fenders are crucial body panels on a vehicle because they contain dirt and debris that our tyres kickup and which can damage our car and other vehicles on the road.

Types of fender

There are Two types of fender which is shown in the above fig. Presenty we are using half bumper type, because it reduce material wastage and reduce cost compare to full bumber type. To create full bumber type fender it required blank used to createing is very large. In half bumber type we use less blank create a fender so the weight of the car will reduce and it will increase performance.

Fender wheel Arch

Wheel Arch is the semi circular area in the Fender, Which covers the wheel of the car. There must be some clearance between Tyre and the Wheel arch of the fender depends on different region regulation standards. So, the tyre will not touch the wheel arch of the fender during suspension. It also serves for the safty of pedestrian and also helps to protect the car from mud or stone which is thrown from the ground during rotation of the tyre.

MOUNTING REGIONS ON FENDER :

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender , they are

  • A- pillar mounting
  • Body mounting
  • Sill mounting
  • Bumper mounting
  • Drip mounting

Given master section for drip area

Design of Drip area mounting:

To design a drip area mounting we must consider Engine room clearance, Tool workability and Visibility from the outside of the car. Here we followed all the data given in the master section to design a drip area mounting. And we gave a flat surface in the area which the fasteners will mount and additionally we add a dart in order to increase the strength of the mounting area.

Design of Sill mounting:

Sill is the panel directly below the bottom of the door which support the floor and also used to combine the floor and the body . The bottom end of the fender is mounted on the sill, thus the sill mounting position is designed with holes and emboss with flat surface to mount the fasteners.

Design of bumper mounting area:

Bumper mounting area is used to mount the bumper and the fender. Here also we provided proper mounting holes and emboss with flat surface to mount the fender with proper fasteners.

Design of A pillar mounting area :

The A -pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof . We should also provide proper mounting on fender to mount on A pillar.

Design of baffle mounting area :

These are the region where we mount baffel which is used to protect the car and the pedestrians from from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is in motion.

Fender Design

Conclusion

All the mounting areas of fender is designed as per the manufacturing requirement and by following as per the given master section. Also the thickness of 0.75 mm is provided to the component.
